Flashback—When Jay left Penny

They were preparing for their last movie night. Jay snuck out of Galaxy from the rest of the band (another 18+ night) to be with Penny once more. Penny was there earlier, but only briefly. Naturally, Jay followed her home when she left.

Screw Derek and Danny, Jay thought, They could never get to him.

While Penny took a quick shower, Jay readied the fresh off the microwave popcorn in a large bowl and set it on the coffee table. He popped in the movie—their favorite, That Thing You Do!—into the DVD player and skipped all the previews to the menu page. As he plopped lazily on the couch, his phone made a tinkle sound, which meant he had a text. He saw a pop up notification on the phone screen as its light lit up on his face. It read:

“UNKNOWN NUMBER

We’re watching you, Jaybird. Leave her as requested. It’s for the best, you know? Sure, you’ll have fun tonight, but if you’re not out by 6am tomorrow morning, we’ll tell Tom how you’ve been harassing her since you came here.

Toodles, mate!"

He froze, staring at the text. He knew it was from Danny. He and Derek were not giving up on taunting him. He had ignored their text threats (“I’ll represent Penny on your case.” “We’ll make sure Tom and Penny turn against you.” “You’ll never know what’s coming.”) since they confronted him at Penny’s get-together. But now, maybe he should really listen to them…

“Jay?” Penny walked in from her room. Jay turned his head to see her in his shirt and her underwear. No pants. He gulped.

She walked freely over to the couch and sat next to him. He could smell the cocoa butter body wash she used, mixed with a vanilla musk scent from her hair. He was certain she was teasing him.

She smiled sweetly as she took the remote from his lap. She pressed the play button for the movie; it began with a bouncy song. Even though the movie began, Jay couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. He watched her put the remote on the coffee table, leaned back on the couch, with her knees in front of her.

“Damnit, Penny.” He breathed as he started kissing her neck. He felt her smile, her giggle vibrating in her neck.

“Down, boy,” She finally turned to look at him. She could see the hungriness in his eyes. She smiled. “On the other hand…the movie can wait.”

“Hell yes.” He kissed her intensely, which almost took her by surprise; at the same time it didn’t, because it was what she had been hinting all along. She smiled into the kiss and followed his lead. Her hands were already reaching for his belt buckle.

Jay felt her hands slowly unbuckling his belt as she kissed him; soon after, he started removing his shirt for her…

They moved to her bedroom and stayed there all night, completely forgetting about the movie that was still playing. It was their last night together, and Jay wanted to make sure they made the most of it.
