Lost Horizon

by sloanranger

Rescued group from Chinese incident.

found Shangri-La by accident.

That's what Conway thought,

but he's really been brought -

to paradise, to take over management.

Ancient Llama tells Conway why,

he was brought to mountains high:

a reasonable society,

of peace and piety -

Shangri-La creates very long life.

The rest of their group don't believe,

though Conway is very intrigued.

He gets off track,

but finds his way back

to long-life, love and ... peace.

This is one of James Hilton's three masterpieces. The other two are:

"Goodbye, Mr. Chips" & "Random Harvest."

Brief Synopsis - a journalist-philosopher (Robert Conway), rescues a group of Americans from a Chinese hot spot, and their plane crashes high over the mountains of Tibet.

There, in a secluded valley, (between the mountains), the High Llama, (a French Friar named Perrault - who stumbled upon the valley in 1719), discovers a literal paradise - Shangri-La. There is no war, very little 'government' or laws, and its citizens live to an incredibly old age.

Conway has been brought there by the old Llama, to assume 'leadership,'as its now 1930 and the Llama finally feels he is near death ... that's 211 years old if you're counting  : )
