She felt at peace, almost. It was silent and calming, her eyes closed in tranquil rest. Yet something unsettled her. She tried to open her eyes before she realised they were already open, blindly staring into something blacker than black - there was nothing.

Eleanor stood in a void, surrounded by emptiness and all alone. In an attempt to wake up from what she desperately hoped was a nightmare, she screamed until her throat ran dry and her voice was a mere whisper. Tears had wet her cheeks as her chest heaved hopelessly, sobs shaking her body - she was abandoned in this maddening purgatory.

Her memory was blank, she could hardly grasp her identity let alone what had determined her to be deserving of this penance. So for what seemed like eternity, Eleanor weeped despairingly in her hollow cage.

Then there was light, a beam of hope amid the sorrow of loneliness.
