Chapter 22

Next morning Gauri woke up alone in bed and wondered where Siddarth went. She glanced over at the clock and was shocked to see that it was eight o’ clock already. She got out of bed quickly and headed to bathroom to get ready to face the family.

Thirty minutes later Gauri had just come out of the bathroom and was drying her hair when Siddarth came in the room and closed the door behind him. Gauri noticed he was dressed in jeans and casual pullover and wondered how she had slept after Siddarth left the bed.

Siddarth walked behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. “Good morning sweetheart, how are you feeling?”

Gauri placed the towel aside and turned in his arms. She placed her hands on his shoulders and looked in to his eyes. “Siddarth I am scared to face everyone, most especially Maa and Hetal aunty.”

She looked down at his chest after making her statement. Siddarth tightened his arms around her and pulled her closure. “Gauri, don’t be scared, everything will be alright.”

Gauri looked up at him again. “I have to tell them everything.”

Siddarth kissed her on the forehead. “No need, I already talked to mom and Hetal aunty.”

Before Gauri could ask him anything else there was a knock on the door. Siddarth gave her a quick kiss on the lips and went to open the door. Siddarth grinned at his mom and aunt and they smiled back at him. “I should have known you two would not wait for me to bring her down.”

Sunita patted him on the cheek. “You wouldn’t understand Siddarth.”

Gauri stood still as they walked in. Sunita placed the glass of juice she was holding on the dresser then took Gauri’s hand and walked to the couch with her. They all sat down with Gauri between Sunita and Hetal.

Sunita caressed Gauri’s head. “Do you know from the very first moment I saw you I wanted you for my Siddarth? Had I known that you were the girl he wanted to marry three years ago, I would not have hesitated to ask you to marry him right then and there.”

Gauri’s eyes filled with tears and Sunita wiped the one lone tear that fell on Gauri’s cheek. “You are with us now, we are your family, nothing will change this. What happened to you was tragic but don’t ever lose hope. God willing you will one day be able to have a child also and if not there are many children in the world who could use a home and a mother like you.”

Gauri turned when she felt Hetal’s hand on her head. “You can share anything with Sunita and me. We are your mothers now and we have come to love you like our daughter.”

Gauri thought she had cried all her pain out in Siddarth’s arms the night before, but the loving words of the two women sitting beside her made her cry even harder. She hugged Hetal then Sunita and she felt as if she was truly blessed to have such a loving family.

Hetal and Sunita both caressed Gauri’s head as they stood up to leave. “Siddarth bring Gauri down for breakfast as soon as she is ready, everyone is waiting for her anxiously.” Sunita said as she walked towards the door.
