Chapter 10

After dinner Kruti and Sanya took Gauri to Kruti’s room to show her Kruti’s outfits for the wedding.  Sweta was not with them since she was attending a family function with her parents.

Amit took his uncle and aunt home while Siddarth and Raj went to Siddarth’s room and left his grandmother and the other older people to finalize the wedding plans. Siddarth was glad he didn’t have to look at Gauri’s parents anymore. He had seethed all night at the way Neeta aunty gushed over Avni and tried to belittle Gauri.

“Siddarth would you calm down, there is nothing you can do right now, instead just think about what your next step is to convince Gauri to give you a chance.” Raj had seen Siddarth clench and unclench his hands all night and hoped he didn’t start shouting at Gauri’s parents.

Siddarth stopped in the middle of the room and placed his hands on his hips. He looked up at the ceiling and closed his eyes. “Raj I need to see her alone, just for few moments. I need to make sure she is okay.” Raj sighed and pulled out his phone and text Kruti to let her know Siddarth’s request. He will leave it to Kruti on how to get Gauri to see Siddarth. Raj told Siddarth he text Kruti to let her know.

Siddarth knew his sister would somehow take care of it. “How did she react to the flowers?” Raj had been waiting all night for Siddarth to ask him this and was surprised when he didn’t ask him right away.

“I think she knew as soon as she saw them, but she didn’t react outwardly at all. I couldn’t read her expressions, except for when one of her co-worker tried to taunt her, but she handled that very well.”

Siddarth walked to the window and stared down at the rose garden. He smiled when Raj told him word per word at the way Gauri handled her co-worker. “That’s my girl, she knows how to handle the outsiders. It is her own family she does not know how to deal with.” If only she would let him near her then she wouldn’t have to deal with her parents or her spoiled sister at all. He was determined to find a way to make her part of his life permanently.

Siddarth turned when Raj’s phone signaled an incoming text. Raj smiled as he read the text. He got up from the bed and walked to the door. “You are lucky, she also wants to talk to you for five minutes.” He opened the door and looked back at Siddarth. “Make the best of it.” He winked and closed the door.

Siddarth turned back towards the scene outside and waited. He knew his sister would have directed her to his room. He waited with hope and anticipation. Will she be pleased at the colors of the room?  They had both taken each other’s favorite colors into consideration even when they were not together. He had chosen their favorite colors for this room and she had chosen their favorite colors for her dress.

He heard the door open and close quietly but didn’t turn. He waited to see what she would do. He sighed when he heard her move towards him. He turned when she came to stand beside him. “Hi, are you okay?” He couldn’t help the concerned tone of his question.

She didn’t look at him but stared out at the rose garden. “I am fine Siddarth, it’s nothing new. I wanted to thank you for the flowers, they were beautiful.” She twisted her hands in front of her.
