Lucy and I sat down at the nearest lunch table. I saw Lucas and the Jocks straight across the lunch room, and panicked.

"What's the matter honey bun?" Lucy asked me, "you are as stiff as a tree when Lucas is around...."

I gulped. "I've known him for 11 years now, and not once have you or I sit with the Jocks..."

Lucy gave a sympathy look towards Lucas. "Poor thing doesn't recognize that his best friend is lonely."

Suddenly Lucy was right; Lucas doesn't realize that his best friend is lonely. He doesn't recognize that he gave everything up to be popular. He even gave me up, just for his popularity.

Lucy put her hand on my shoulder, and whispered in my ear. "Lucas is coming over here, so shape up and stop day-dreaming."

I smiled at Lucas, and he smiled back at me.

"So, how are you Anna?" Lucas asked me, smiling at Lucy.

"Fine." I said back, annoyed with Lucas.

"Anna," Lucas said, "what's wrong?"

Lucas's tone of voice changed, and he sounded more concerned than happy. It annoyed me, so I picked up my backpack and headed to the girl's bathroom... First day of senior year had finally been ruined by the guy I loved.
