Glee Club Practice on Friday:
"OK guys, this week has been all about empowerment. I feel all of us have been empowered. The only ones who haven't done their assignment yet are Marley & Kitty. Who's up first?" Will asked.
"I'll go Mr. Schue." Marley said. "Go ahead Marley." Will replied nicely.
Marley closed her eyes, took a deep breath, then opened her eyes and started singing:

As Marley finished, the Glee club members cheered. Kitty began to cry with tears of happiness. Marley walked over and embraced her girlfriend. "That was one of the most beautiful performances that I ever heard you sing." She said smiling. "Thanks." Marley said with a pleasant smile. "Alright Kitty, you're up." Sam said. Kitty stood up and then addressed the entire Glee Club. "Before I begin I just wanted to say one thing: Someone we know and admire said that Glee Club is the one place where you can feel accepted and like you belong regardless of your race, beliefs, gender, or even homosexuality. On that note, I'm just going to come out and say it: I'm gay. I didn't know at first, but I can't ignore my feelings right now. In fact, I have a special someone that I have feelings for. This song I'm about to sing, I'd like to dedicate it to the both of us." she said looking at Marley. Marley smiled as Kitty smiled back at her, and then began to sing:

Marley ran over and embraced her girlfriend. "That was beautiful." She said. "I meant every word." Kitty said back. "I love you." Marley said smiling. "I love you too." Kitty replied. The Glee club applauded, whooped, and cheered the two girls. "So is that it for the week Mr. Schue?" Sam asked. "Actually no." Will stated. "As I said before, we still have one more spot open, and Kitty has persuaded me to give someone a chance." Will looked to the door. "Come on in." Scott then made his way into the choir room. "Ladies and gentleman, this is Scott Wilson. He's Kitty's brother." Will stated. Some of the Glee club members with the exception of Kitty, Marley, Jake, Ryder & Spencer looked on with skeptical looks on their face. "Hey, come on." Kitty said, sticking up for her brother. "You heard what Mr. Schue said at the start of this week; this week's lesson is empowerment. I feel empowered, and I think my brother is too. Mr. Schue also said so himself, we need a 12th and final member, and I think my brother can be the missing link for us to get back to Nationals and win; Look, I know he has a controversial reputation, but I think deep down, he has a tremendous heart and genuinely cares about other people. Glee Club is the one group here at this high school that allows anyone to audition, and I begged Mr. Schue, and now I'm begging you all, please....give him a chance." Kitty pleaded.
The Glee club members shrugged their shoulders and agreed to give Scott a chance. "OK, let's see what you got. Take it away Scott". Sam said.
"OK, as you know, I do have a controversial reputation, and yes, I've been down on my luck. However, there's one song that reminds me of a certain quote that empowers me: "Life is a crazy game and it will hit you so hard that it could even knock you down and off of your feet. But the thing about it is that in life, it's not about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How you can take the blows and keep moving forward. How you can take the punishment and keep coming back for more. How you can get knocked down but get back up again." Scott stated. "I feel like I got the perfect song to state that." Kitty, Jake, Spencer, Ryder & Marley smiled at him as Scott put on his sunglasses and began to sing:

The Glee club stood up and gave Scott a thunderous ovation. Scott had a huge smile on his face as Kitty walked over to embrace him. "Now that's what I call talent and empowerment." Sam stated. Mr. Schue spoke up: "OK, I don't think I need to ask but I will; all in favor of having Scott be our 12th and final member of the Glee Club?" "YEAH!" The Glee Club cheered. "It's unanimous then, and well, let's make it official; welcome to the Glee Club Scott!" Mr. Schue said as he and Scott shook hands. The Glee Club embraced Scott in a group hug. Scott smiled and winked at Kitty. She did the same back at him as Scott, for the first time in his life finally felt accepted and empowered. It was indeed a week that lived up to it's name for the entire Glee Club. The beginning of a new year couldn't have gotten off to a better start. More importantly, it was the start of new beginnings for several members of the New Directions!!!
And that's the end of Episode 1. Wow! This was so challenging but fun to write. Pun intended, I feel very empowered by this. Anyways, when I get a chance I will write Episode 2.
The songs sung by the respective Glee Club members in this chapter are:
1. Marley- "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten (I like the reference to Melissa Benoist's role as Supergirl)
2. Kitty- "What Makes You Different, Makes You Beautiful" by The Backstreet Boys
(I thought this dedication song was perfect for the moment between her and Marley)
3. Scott- "The Touch" by Stan Bush (This is my empowerment anthem! This was a song I was WAITING to sing!) :-)
