Nothingness

Nothingness is kind of a difficult concept because we don't really know what nothingness is and if it even exists. Maybe nothingness doesn't exist because nothingness is just empty space. Or a sort of gas floating around.

This is what nothingness is to me.

Let's say you're doing "nothing". You not really doing "nothing", you're either sitting or standing, you're breathing and maybe thinking. No one can be doing absolutely nothing. It's simply not possible. You may say that non living things can be doing nothing. But they are. If you say a rock is doing "nothing", you're technically wrong. It may be sitting on the pavement, slowly eroding as the rain falls. And over time, that rock may have traveled thousands of miles. So technically, no one and nothing is doing nothing.

But that's just the act of nothing. What is nothingness?

When you think of nothingness, you may think of a black or white space. But think about it this way, does nothingness have a color?

You may think white is the color of nothingness. But it's actually black.

The color white appears when all three primary colors are present. So technically, white isn't nothing.

However, black is the absence of color.

If nothingness had a color, it would probably be black. Because black has no color and no light. So, black is basically nothing.

Let's take a couple steps back. This book is questioning the belief of nihilism. Which is quite ironic, knowing that nihilism is believing in absolutely nothing. Nihilists don't have a very good reputation since they don't believe in love or any morals, believing that life is completely  meaningless. They're looked at as evil pessimists who don't care about anything or anyone.

Not saying I'm a nihilist. Just questioning it, exploring the territory.

But we'll get into nihilism in another chapter.

Back to the actual topic.

To some, nothingness is a place with no life. But nothingness is just, well, nothing. If a planet has no life, it's still a rock. It's still a planet. It still contains color and maybe light. Maybe it has ice or sand storms.

Nothingness is a difficult topic to write about, just like every other topic I've written about. There's a lot of dead ends to this one. It's kind of irritating. Maybe I'll add to this later, this one's kinda difficult to write about ughh.

But nothing is something. And something is not nothing.
