Chapter 6

Andrew's POV

"Have you ever been to this town?" I asked once I parked in a space in front of a cafe that a pack member owned.

The drive into town was calm. Meredith only stared out into the woods with a strange expression, something between annoyance and regret. It was strange to see her like that, like she regretted something but could never take it back. I wanted so desperately to ask her what she was thinking but I held it back; I didn't want to ruin the moment of peace.

"When I visited before I did." She replied, grabbing Val gently out of the backseat.

I was shocked by her reply but nodded and quickly got out of the car, coming to her side to open the passenger door. When Meredith came out she gave me a thankful nod before looking out into town.

"You've been here before? In Crescent Moon territory?" I asked standing next to her but giving her enough personal space to not feel uncomfortable.

Meredith glanced back at me, "Yes of course. How else would I know your parents?" She said.

"Then why didn't you ever visit before? I mean, before I shifted. I wouldn't have known you were my mate back then." I questioned.

Meredith stopped on her tracks and turned to look at me. "Yes, but you would have remembered me when you shifted wouldn't you?" She stated.

I didn't reply, thinking over her words. She was right, I've had dreams of the Trials for as long as I could remember. Sure Meredith didn't come into my dreams until later on after I first shifted, but I would have remembered her afterwards. I frowned at the thought, was she trying to protect me?

"Plus," Meredith began, "If you knew who I was, you would have continuously searched for me. I didn't need the worry of Crescent Moon members following me around during my journeys on my agenda." She said, turning back around and walking off.

"Oh." I mumbled feeling the disappointment once again. Of course she would have had such thoughts.

I trailed after Meredith my shoulders slumping slightly. I hid my expression and kept it blank but inside I was hurting. Vivian was right, I would have to work hard in order to get her to fall in love with me.

"Do you plan to mope all day?" Meredith asked amused as we sat down in the restaurant.

It was still early morning and I hadn't had a chance to eat, I suspected Meredith must've been hungry even though she didn't complain about it. I, on the other hand, needed calories in my system or my Wolf would be on edge throughout the day, and I didn't want to spend my date with Meredith being snappy.

I frowned at her in response but shook my head anyways. I was still disappointed with Meredith's words but tried my best to forget about them. She was right, I needed to stop being a child and grow up.

Meredith rolled her eyes and set her bag on the side next to her. We were sitting on a booth near the windows. There weren't that many people in the small, homey restaurant which I was thankful for, I wanted to talk to my mate in quiet.

Some of the Witches that were here were staring at Meredith with shock clearly in their features. Other members of our pack were staring at Meredith with assessing eyes, trying to see if their future Luna was good to me most likely. I felt a smile tug at my lips from calling Crescent Moon 'our' Pack. I loved the sound of it and I couldn't wait until she really was my Luna and wife.
