This chapter is all about Donna and Fernando and a small appearance from Ruby at the end. Enjoy!!!

"Shall we move to my office? I want to show you something" Fernando said to Donna. She only nodded and followed him.

When they entered the office, Donna looked around. It was her old office but it had changed a bit to fit Fernando's personality. He had a few family photos and books in the shelf behind the desk. Some she assumed were of his family in Mexico, others were here at the hotel but mostly it was him and Ruby together. Donna could see that they loved each other very much, it was strange that specifically him ended up working at her hotel.

Fernando opened a drawer of the shelf and got out a box. Inside that box were various notebooks of different colors. He took one out and spoke

"I write in these notebooks every important decision I make inside the hotel. Every guest I meet that has made a contribution to us. Every action that can makes a huge difference within these walls, good or bad. I keep track of everything that goes in and out of here so nothing gets lost or stolen" Fernando explained, then he took out a leather blue notebook "This one is my favorite, in here I write the songs I sing with your mother every morning and afternoon" he stretched his hand so she could take it.

Donna looked at his smile and that harmed her heart. She took the notebook and flipped through the pages and read a few songs. The words were very beautiful and Donna could tell they were from the heart. She gave the notebook back to Fernando and he put it in the box

"You can take the box and look at them if you want" he said softly, she nodded then placed the box beside her.

There were a few minutes of silence so Donna could collect her thoughts, Fernando didn't want her to feel pressured so he waited for Donna to speak first "Why did you show me all this?" She finally said

"I wanted you to know the worker before you knew the man in me" he replied

"How did you end up here?" She asked

"I think it was destiny. After the war in my country, I worked all over central and south America. I was in Brazil when I heard they were looking for someone to manage the hotel" he told

"So you like to travel around the world? Like me" Donna smiled

Fernando let out a small laugh "It appears to be so" he paused for a moment "I got here when Sophie and Sam were in the middle of rebuilding the place. I never stay in a place too long but something held me here, back then I didn't know what it was. Not knowing we were related, I grew very fond of her. She sometimes use to stay up late behind Sam's back to check if everything was perfect for the next day"

"Like mother like daughter" Donna teased "How do you know she did that?" She asked curious

"When I couldn't sleep, I use to take night walks around the hotel or the beach. I could find her asleep in the office sometimes and cover her with a blanket" he chuckled at the memory "One day she woke up and begged me not to tell Sam" Donna smiled imagining her daughter's reaction "Of course I didn't"

"Thank you" Donna said

"I was doing what my heart was telling me, I was a lonely man only working hard to make everyone happy" Fernando said

"You never had anybody after what happened between you and mom all those years ago?" She asked

"No, there was nobody I could love more than Ruby. It never crossed my mind I would find her again and that I would be working for my granddaughter... Or daughter from now on" Fernando said looking at her lovingly

"I mean what I said, thank you for looking after our family. I can tell my mother loves you, she has never looked at anyone the way she looks at you. Mother has always been working and singing to earn us money after my stepfather died when I was 5. Meaning I never saw her real self, we were never close and after I got out of college we lost contact. You could say I don't really know her and she didn't take the time to know me" Donna said pouring her heart out "I was on my own raising Sophie and I honestly would have loved to have a father figure growing up" she said with her voice cracking up, Fernando got out of his chair and kneeled beside her. She didn't think it twice and threw herself into his arms crying.

"I'm here now and I won't go anywhere, I promise you" he said comforting her

She looked up at him "I know I told mom that we could try to have a relationship but it's not easy to have a mother-daughter relationship with someone that spent my whole life avoiding me. I still can't forgive her for that" she cried

"I understand, you two need some time to think things through. She has done that for two years, it is all she does. With Sophie and Donny Ruby has been doing a wonderful job bonding with them. She has been regretting for a long time not being able to do that with you" Fernando said

"It's just really hard to believe or make that step" Donna said

"Give her a chance whenever you're ready, nobody is forcing you" Donna nodded and Fernando gave her a sweet kiss on her head before hugging her. Suddenly someone knocked on the door.

They let go of each other, Fernando stood up and Donna dried her tears "Come in" Fernando said

"Dear I..." Ruby said but stopped on seeing Donna "Sorry, I didn't know you had company. It's almost time for dinner" she looked at Donna trying think of what to say "Hi" she said

Donna had no expression on her face and tried to avoid eye contact with Ruby "I better go look for Sam, see you at dinner" she stood up from the chair, grabbed the box of notebooks and rushed out of the room.

Ruby sighed and tried to hold down the tears, Fernando held her "She's never going to forgive me" Ruby cried in her husband's arms

"She will, just give her time and have faith" he said

Faith was all Ruby had, she was willing to do anything to have her daughter's forgiveness.
