A Flawed Way of Thinking

Nowadays we think in such a flawed way,

That if we can’t see it,

There’s nothing wrong,

When in reality,

Things are easily hidden.

You say she’s not depressed,

But why? You don’t know.

Because she doesn’t look sad?

You don’t see what she does,

When she’s alone,

In her room at 2 A.M.

You say she’s not anorexic,

But why?

Because you can’t see her bones?

You don’t see her starving herself,

Counting every calorie she puts in her body.

You say she’s not suicidal,

But why?

Because she’s not overdosing on pills?

You don’t see the crumpled up notes,

That she’s written time and time again,

Saying she’s sorry for what she wants to do.

That’s the thing about this world,

And the way we think.

We don’t think anythings wrong,

Not unless it’s right in front of us.

If we all just took the time to be their friend,

To be there for them,

Maybe we could save a life.
