10 Months

September was the beginning,

Of everything that was you and me.

We didn’t know it then,

But we soon would.

It began subtly,

Neither of us knew.

But everyone else did.

The way we acted,

Made it obvious,

And I guess I should have known,

Because hatred always turns around.

I didn’t want to admit it.

But I liked you,

And I hoped you liked me too.

In October things changed,

And not just the leaves,

But the things between you and me.

It wasn’t good anymore.

We were back where we started,

Getting on each others nerves.

There was no trust there,

But what else could I do?

You didn’t want to hear it,

There was nothing I could say,

To make you trust me,

The way I trusted you.

In November I was thankful,

For more than just a day,

We talked until midnight,

Until one of us fell asleep,

Trading secrets,

Having fun,

Building trust,

We found a lot in common,

And for the first time,

You knew the real me,

And I knew the real you.

December was cold,

But I had you,

To keep me warm,

In the cool winter air.

But we weren’t official,

Until that one perfect day,

When you called me and asked,

If I would be yours.

My answer was yes of course.

I still remember,

The smile on my face,

When we hung up the phone.

Because I could finally say,

You liked me,

And I liked you.

January was brutal,

It tore me apart,

Everything we had,
