Love As We Grow

In kindergarten,

It was just a playground crush,

Not serious at all,

Just making your cheeks blush.

But we all grow out of that phase,

Even if that crush stays.

We moved on to 1st grade,

Now he’s that boy you adore,

But you’re just a young girl,

It could never be more.

Only a short time,

Until your heart makes a greater climb.

But now in 2nd grade,

You call it being married,

When you’re in sync on the swings,

But then your paces varied.

Laughter still filled the air,

But that was before we actually cared.

We finally made it to 3rd grade,

And boys were suddenly gross,

So you ignored your crushes,

And needed your father the most.

Your bond with him gew,

And there was trust between you two.

Fast forward to 4th grade,

A strong crush on that boy,

With the big dreamy eyes,

And he fills your heart with joy.

But that’s only for a while

So while you can just sit and smile.

Finally in 5th grade,

That one celebrity hunk,

Your walls covered in posters,

Even though your heart sunk.

Because he’d never know your name,

His life was only fame.

Moved up to the 6th grade,

Some boy asked you out,

And you called it dating,

But what was dating about?

It was almost nothing at all,

Only hugs in the hall.

Now in the 7th grade,

You’re too young for love,

That’s all your parents told you,

Yet you still put him above.

But he only broke your heart,

If only you’d been smart.

Finishing the 8th grade,

You meet someone new,

But he’s not the one,

So you stay true to you.

He’s not needed to make you smile,

At least not for a while.

Finally in 9th grade,

With one single glance,

He captures your heart,

As he asks you to dance.

And you’ll say you’re in love,

But it’s only kind of.

Falling into 10th grade,

It’s Valentine’s Day,

And you’re falling for him,

He tells you to stay.

So he can tell you how he feels,

And you finally know it’s real.

In the 11th grade,

Still with the boy from freshman year,

A smile glued to your face,

Whenever he is near.

The topic of what’s to come,

Only makes your heart go numb.

Graduating the 12th grade,

Decisions get in the way,

But will he stay with you?

Or take a new path and stray.

You decide to try,

Because he could be the guy.

It’s your wedding day,

You smile at one another,

Remembering the times,

That you share with each other.

He’d promised you leave you never,

And now you two have forever.
