ICONIC LOVE

Chapter 15

To be honest, this chapter means a lot to me because I wrote it with the feeling I had when coming out to my own mother as bisexual. Enjoy and don't forget to comment and vote Xx

When Meryl and Cher came out and sat down everyone cheered.

"Hi there!!! I'm really happy to have you two here and very honored to have Cher with us for the first time" Jimmy started

"Thank you, we're happy that we came" Cher said

"First of all let me start on congratulating you BOTH on winning your awards. That never happened, right?"

"No, it really was fate that we got to win it on that day" Meryl said

"It really was a historic moment, it was brilliantly brave. You came out as a couple at the academy awards wow" Jimmy said that and everyone cheered. The couple smiled "I want to clear something up for those who did not see the awards or those who don't remeber and I hope it's not too foward"

"Sure"

"You are both lesbians?" Jimmy asked carefully

"No" they answered in unison

"I'm bisexual" Meryl said

"I am a lesbian" Cher said, the audience gasped then went silent

"Oh wow, I certaintly didn't expect that based on your relationship record" cher giggled "Um, how did it all started? I mean 35 years hiding and then later come out is something big"

"You go first" Meryl said to Cher, she wanted to take that moment to calm her nerves down and not have an attack on the show.

"Now that I think about it, the fact that growing up there were no men around the house kicked me to be drawn to women more. Back then i didn't noticed why it was. That and like I said on Sunday, after my second marriage or even before, I started to have doubts about myself because I didn't feel confortable or satisfied but I didn't want to accept it" She explained

"Why?" Jimmy asked

"Well because it was the 80s and it was difficult to come out as a lesbian back then. Plus, I had my kids to think about"

"When did you were sure that you liked women?"

"When I got on Silkwood, as you may know the character was the lesbian best friend of Karen Silkwood. In between the lines of the script, I saw myself reflected in her. It terrified me but that is when I knew then I saw Meryl and instantly fell for her. I mean, I have already admired her for her work, who hasn't?. When I saw how beautiful and funny she was and the way she received me, I was on cloud 9" the audience awed "I didn't know how to act around her,  even less that she felt the same way. I was really nervous, starring in my first big movie and falling for the main actress all in one, it was crazy. Mainly because she was married and had kids, I didn't want to break her family"

"That's really amazing" Jimmy now turned to Meryl "Did you feel the same way Meryl? Like, did you always knew about your sexually?"

"Not entirely, I had never felt any difference. I admit to be attracted to women but never payed attention because I was already married and had two kids. I loved my husband very much, he is an amazing man who loves his kids as much as me. He really has a heart of gold for doing what he did" Meryl said

"Yes" Jimmy said "I don't know what I would do at first if my wife says to me that she likes women while being married" Meryl got a little annoyed by the comment "I mean I would support her but I don't know what my first reaction would be"

"I get that, his first reaction was not a good one either. As expected, no husband would. I was both attracted to men and women but I was not sure and scared that the case would be being bisexual. Until I saw Cher walk to the set of Silkwood. I was fascinated by her, by her personality, her talent, everything. I couldn't stop thinking about her those next days and began to feel uneasy because I wasn't sure what to think" She was beggining to feel nervous, Cher noticed and held her hand to caress "When we shot the scene on the porch I realized I was falling in love with her. It scared me, because of the time we lived, because of my children and because of Don. I didn't want to be unfaithful so I told him. He obviously went mad, I was almost sure he was going to ask for divorce then. I cried for days but in my mind and my heart there was Cher. I felt awful, I went to her one day on set after talking to Don and we told each other how we felt. She supported she through the situation and that made me fall more in love with her. When Don saw how I was suffering, because I couldn't tell anyone else, he decided to help us. Because of the time it was not easy coming out. He still loved me and he wanted to see me happy even it was not with him." Meryl said

"Wow, really admirable of him" Jimmy said. Meryl smiled and nodded

"You know what they say; if you love someone, set them free" Cher intervened

"True"

"So I assume that you started your relationship since then, you managed to cover it up pretty well I must say" he said

"It wasn't easy trust me" Cher said "I hated to lie to all the men that I was with, they came to me saying they liked me and I liked them too but not the same way. After the last guy, I said 'ok that's enough, I can't do this anymore' so I stayed "single" in a way from men. I couldn't tell them I was dating a women, it would have been a media circus and Meryl would have killed me. Not like it's not a media circus now but even less than the 80s"

"Yeah but lets not dwell on that" Meryl said

"How did your family reacted?"

"In the beggining we thought they didn't know, before filming the Mamma Mia sequel, Meryl and I had a bit of a fall out" she stopped, looked at Meryl and she smiled sadly but Meryl gestured for her to continue "We were both devastated and depressed, Chaz came the next morning because apparently Don called him and told me he knew about us since later after he himself came out for the first time. I was in shock. My mother surprisingly always knew because mothers know everything and my sister didn't know until that day Chaz came but supported me"
"My kids were kind of the same" Meryl started "I was depressed before going filming, I hate it when we fight. My kids noticed and I told them I had a fight between friends with Cher and they told me everything. Don and I were surprised when they said they had known for over 10 years"

"That's great" Jimmy said

"When we got to set, I felt awful for the fight but I planned to apologize and I did. By proposing to her at the same time, in front of the whole cast" Cher said.

"Because she is a complete show off as you all know" Meryl joked and Cher laughed "After that, Don called me and said he filed for divorce. During the divorce process we didn't talk..."

"That's when I went on tour" Cher interrupted "But in the middle of my Vegas dates, she went there, what happens there stays there" Cher smirked and they all laughed "and we got married in Vegas, Meryl surprised me arranging everyone to be there"

"That's awesome and really romantic" Jimmy said

"Yeah, it was the perfect night and after that the perfect time. Since we got married, we decided to come out to the public. At the awards. It was scary but we had and have each other. It doesn't matter what people think, we know who we are and who we love. At least we stay together and happy" Meryl said

"That is very brave and let me tell you that it makes your supporters, myself included, very proud"

"Thank you, we really needed to do this. It was totally time and definitely I will never deny that I love this woman with my heart. It sounds cheesy but when I'm with Meryl I become a different person and I am happy about that" Cher said looking at her wife lovingly

"Me too, I am proud and happy that she is in my life and I get to love her like the way we wanted" Meryl said looking at Cher, everyone awed once again. Finally they leaned in and shared a sweet kiss on the lips which made everyone cheer.

"That is an incredible and iconic love story" Jimmy said then turned to the camera "we will be right back with more of Meryl Streep and Cher, were gonna play a little game after the break so don't go anywhere" the crowd applaud and the couple relaxed.

If you think about it, some of this things make sense in real life and makes you see the real life Meryl Streep and Cher in a different way. Especially Cher. I for sure feel that way, don't you??
