Lola

"Dad, where are my neon shoes?!" I grabbed things from my closet and dumped them on the bed. My room had been clean when I went to sleep, but now it was looking like I had unpacked and never got to putting everything back in its place. I kept looking through the closet until I found them sitting by the sandals grandma had given me during the summer.

"Never mind, I found them!" I yelled as I climbed down the stairs trying to focus on putting on my shoes without tumbling down the stairs. I thanked the heavens that I was having a good-balance day for once.

"Lola, you're going to be late!" My other dad yelled as he climbed down the stairs and I turned to give him a smile. He shook his head but I could see a smile on his lips.

Yes, I have two dads and they are absolutely wonderful. I wouldn't say I'm spoiled but I do get my way sometimes. Kevin, my 'mom', is the sweetest most caring guy this planet has ever had the privilege of housing. Eric, my 'dad', is strict and has a temper but he's like a teddy bear at times too.

They've told me about the whole adoption process when I was eleven. I knew that I wasn't their kid since two guys can't make a child. Unless one of them had been probed by an alien and that alien implanted a womb inside of him. That sounds ridiculous... right? I thought so too.

Eric explained to me that they had met my mother via an adoption agency so they didn't know how to contact her after my birth. Kevin told me that if I ever wanted to meet her that I could. I knew that they would help me find her so I could know why she decided to set me up for adoption.

To be honest, if I ever saw the woman who gave birth to me I would thank her. It was because of her decision to give me up for adoption that I got to be Eric Smith and Kevin Draco's child.

I smiled again as I jumped up on the last stair and kissed Eric on the cheek. Did I mention that the guy is a little over six feet tall while I'm around five foot eight? He's a giant!

"I don't want to be rushing and get a ticket, Lola." Eric said as he placed his gym bag on the last step. He's a trainer at the local gym. That's how Eric and Kevin met back home. It was love at first sight, Eric says while Kevin blushes madly. I like hearing them talk about how they met. It's just so... amazing. It gives me hope that I'll find that one person one day.

"Eric, don't be getting mad so early in the morning. Here," Kevin handed us each a bag with our lunch as he walked up to us by the stairs. Kevin is an architect and he's the reason why we moved here. We used to live in San Francisco but I guess things got complicated and the moment Kevin received a job offer, they didn't hesitate to say 'yes'.

I opened the bag and smiled as I took out a twenty dollar bill and placing it in my 'Nightmare Before Christmas' wallet Eric had given me on my birthday.

"Thanks, mommy," I kissed his cheek as I frolicked to the living room in search for my backpack.

I tend to forget where I put my things. Eric says I have attention issues but Kevin says I'm just a very energetic child. I say I lose things on purpose because looking for them is like an adventure in itself.

"You spoil her too much, babe." I heard Eric say and I giggled at his tone.

We moved here a week ago but Kevin had said I could stay and help unpack. I was anxious to see the new school and get to know the students. I usually am chill and just kick back, but for some reason I was feeling anxious about going to this school. Finally the day came for me to go to school and I was sort of hyper.

"Daaaaaaad, have you seen," I cut off as I pulled my backpack from behind the couch, "never mind!"

I pulled on my backpack and looked at myself in the mirror we had in the living room. I looked crazy with all the different colors... nice!
