The day before...

I watched as Lola's dad drove away from the school parking lot. He seemed like a nice man, hurrying like that to help his daughter out. By the looks of it, Lola wouldn't be left off the hook, but at least her dad was there quicker than my mother ever would. I sighed and walked into the school, there was one more class to go and then I could go home. It had been a really long day.

I groaned as I remembered that my last class was psychology, which meant I had to go across the main square. I didn't mind crossing the main square, it was a green field about the size of half a tennis court, but what I was dreading was the fact that Tammy had aerobics sixth period and the aerobics class met on the main square. I groaned again since I could hear their chatter as I neared the field. I had wanted to avoid seeing Tammy until tomorrow at least, but alas my luck really sucks.

"Beatriz!" I hear my name called and instantly I know who it is. I stop mid-way on the field and turn to look at a very pissed Tammy. She was wearing the school's P.E. uniform but slightly altered the shorts mid-thigh and the shirt tight enough to make me worry about her breathing.

"Hey, Tammy, sorry I can't talk. I'm late for class already," I smiled a bit and turn to continue walking but she grabs me by the arm and turns me around. Her face could not have been any redder, was she breathing?

"Where have you been? Memo and I have been looking for you since lunch! He even skipped math class just to look for you," she crossed her arms over her chest and I rolled my eyes. Sometimes I think Tammy cares more about Memo than I do, but of course I would never say that out loud.

"I was in the back lot," that was half the truth but I doubt it she would question me. The look on her face told me that she wasn't buying it.

"Memo and I were by the back lot and you weren't there, where were you?" She raised a brow and pursed her lips. Her stance was of an annoyed mother after her child came home late and can't explain where he or she was.

I decided to change the topic, "Why were you two by the back lot?" This time I raised my brow.

Tammy dropped her arms and smiled slightly nervous. Why was she nervous all of the sudden? "We were looking for you, silly."

"You skipped class too? I thought you couldn't skip anymore since you're on probation." I crossed my arms over my chest, I had forgotten my jacket at Lola's house and it was starting to get a little chilly.

Tammy laughed, "We're best friends, Bee, and I would do anything for you. Even if it means being on the Dean's list for another semester," she hugged me tightly and then kissed my cheek. She said we would talk later and went to stand by her class. Tammy still looked nervous but I decided to ignore it. There's times when ignoring Tammy is way better than trying to understand her, it saves you from a headache.

I glanced down at my watch and noticed that there were only thirty minutes left for class to finish. No use on going to class now, I thought and decided to go to the locker room and just wait for Tammy there. If I had gone to class the teacher would surely make me stay afterschool doing research on the lecture I had missed, and I didn't feel like staying for an hour or so in a room with an old lady who smelled like soy sauce every single day. I don't mean to sound mean but couldn't she lay off the Chinese food for a while?

As I walked into the locker room, I stepped to the side as some of the girls from the soccer team were getting out for their practice. They had practice every day in the middle of sixth period and the teachers could not complain. They had won the last three games of the season, so of course no one complained. I sat down on the bench in front of Tammy's locker and leaned back against it. It had really been a long day and all I wanted was to go home and sleep. I was starting to doze off a bit when I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I had forgotten about the texts and calls I received while at Lola's house and now I was dreading looking at them.
