|| Chapter Fifteen ||

Kicking the pebbles instinctively, I followed Daniel down a narrow pathway that, according to him, led back to my pack. The distance between us was increasing as I couldn’t keep up with his long strides. After a couple of failed attempts at keeping up with his pace, I decided to shout, “Daniel can you slow down?”

No reply.

“Daniel, please can you slow down?” Maybe if I added ‘please’ he would consider my request.

“No.”

Great, now he was being angry Daniel again. Can conversations with this boy get any better? I don’t even understand what got him in such a dull mood, excluding the fact that he has anger issues.

All I said was I had to get home because it was getting late. Then this happened.  Seriously, it was starting to piss me off. I called his name several times but, him being Daniel, he didn’t even seem to acknowledge my existence. It was like he was walking independently with only the silence to accompany him through his travel. Except that the silence was being interrupted by me.

“Daniel, seriously, can you slow the hell down or I’m going to lose you!” I shouted not bothered if anyone heard us anymore. I’ve been left alone in these woods for God knows how many times and none of them were fun experiences.

“No,” was his answer. His voice sounded distant, like a few more seconds and I wouldn’t be able to hear him. Panic started to seep through me so I hurried to try and catch up with him. A rush of fresh air hit my face as I darted behind him and the sensation was marvellous. This is what I needed, some fresh air and a cold shower to wash away all the dirt when I get back home.

Incidentally, I hoped I do get back quickly because I hadn’t talked to Trent since this morning. He’s been too focused on inviting other packs over and having confidential meetings which has been quite suspicious. Trent isn’t really a social person to begin with – which is why he hasn’t found his mate yet – but all this socializing with other packs and creating connections between us and the others seemed quite dubious.

“For goodness sake Daniel,” I whispered under my breath. Where was he?

I reached down to my pockets and relaxed when I knew I at least had my phone with me. If Daniel was going to act like an idiot every time I asked for him to take me home then forget him. Who said I wasn’t capable of making my own way home and not be dependent on him?

‘What are you on about? At least try to memorize the damn way first before acting like a know-it-all!’ Iris’ annoying voice harassed my mind. I gritted my teeth to stop myself from throwing a sarcastic comment her way. I was not in the mood for her right now.

“Can you hurry up?” Daniel’s angry tone penetrated the silence that surrounded us. If he wasn’t the strongest wolf on this planet, I would have not hesitated to smash something to his head right now.

I was tired of his mood swings. “No. How about you slow down and maybe we wouldn’t have a problem?”

In front of me I saw his silhouette freeze as he took my words in. Hey, at least I could catch up with him this way. When I reached him, the first thing I noticed was that he looked livid. His green eyes were burning with suppressed anger that, I’m guessing, was directed at me. No surprise there.

I decided to ignore his glare and thanked him because he waited for me. He didn’t reply but simply kept on staring at me which became very uncomfortable after a while. When I realised that he wasn’t planning on moving I asked, “are you gonna lead me back?”
