Dimitri POV

We were falling, hurtling through space like a stone. My hand from Rose was slipping.

“Hold on. Don’t let anyone get lost in time,” yelled the future Rose.

Lissa clung harder to Christian while I tightened my grip on Rose and after what seemed like eternity, we landed on solid ground.

I had never ever been on merry go rounds. But it was an experience more dangerous than the tallest of the wheels.

All were dazed and my head seemed to be spinning. But my mind always taught me to be alert. So I looked around at where we were.

There was no doubt. We were at court, and I bet the guards at the entrance never knew.

“We’re at court,” Rose from future, announced.

“What now?” my Rose turned to me.

“You have to go into the palace, past the guards you can’t negotiate with them, because they have been convinced that you're the bad guys. You have to fight your way in. we could have teleported you right back to the room, but you appearing out of the thin air would cause unnecessary suspicion of you all being evil, ghosts, Strigoi, spirits or whatever,” said the older Dimitri, “You need to fight your way in and get Lissa back to the throne, if you want to actually do it. Our job ends here.”

“You have any device anything to help us?” my Rose intervened.

“Nothing, useful,” said his Rose, her face serious.

“Yes,” interjected my counterpart, “You have to rely on your strength and your cleverness to get past. See you all, and good luck. Hope you can shape the future as it is now.”

I was going to reply when I saw a heated discussion going on between the two Roses. They were speaking in low agitated whispers.

We both Dimitris intervened at once. My Rose turned and dragged me away from the site while the other Rose silently made a face.

I enquired from her what the matter was, but all she muttered was, “I have my dilemma solved and I know how to balance my duties and desires.”

I looked back once more at our future, waving a goodbye.
And sprinted off in the direction of the castle with Lissa and Christian.

On reaching there, we deftly sneaked up on the first guard at sight. He didn’t have much time to react ad one blow from me, left him on the ground. But I knew other Guardians will be soon behind us.

But had Nathan really bribed all the guards?

I didn’t have to wonder for long before two more guardians jumped on us, trying to knock us out by the trick we all know.

We tried our best to fend them off. I kicked and ducked, hitting them and trying to momentarily incapacitate them. It was so hard not to kill them, but my heart couldn’t bear to kill a fellow, because I knew that they were merely acting out orders, misguided by someone else.

Somebody pressed the alarm and as the loud blaring was heard. I saw guardians swarming in.

I looked at Rose who was staring horrified. I knew that there was nothing we could do. We were badly outnumbered.

But we were in no mood to relent. I was going out of my senses as I charged at them, wielding my stake but I should have known better.

I heard a scream from Rose and just at that moment I looked around to see someone holding her at gunpoint, and two more guardians had her hands forced behind her back.

“Surrender Belikov, or else you know,” he barked.

I froze. I couldn’t just gamble on her life just after I got her back.

“Dimitri, don’t,” she yelled, struggling against her captors.

“Alexandra, think about her,” I retorted, “I just won’t risk you. I’ve risked you enough already.”
And I didn’t. I simply dropped my stake and lifted my hands, “I surrender, but I need to talk.”

“Fine Belikov. You’ll talk. You have a lot to talk before the council,” the unknown guardians remarked, as I heard the click of handcuffs on my hands. I looked at Rose whose eyes were dark and teary.

“I’m sorry, I had to do it,” I mouthed, as they handcuffed us and dragged us to the court room.

I looked around for Lissa and Christian, but it was as if they had disappeared into the thin air.
