COOPER

I don’t think the name that the ignorant townsfolk dumped onto this poor, lonely cliff is appropriate at all. In fact I hated it with my guts.

It lacked so much of both respect and sympathy.

The same deserted and haunting cliff that Melissa Nelinski jumped off four years ago and her skinny corporal remains couldn’t be gathered and found because it was scattered all over the jagged rocky shore below. She decided that this kind of ending is best to eternally stop what Samuel Martensen did to her, well more on her side rather than the undying darkness that’s surrounding her family that she left behind.

She left no trail or any warning signs whatsoever. She just jumped.

Down and down and down she went and her slightly cadaverous body crashed onto the remorseless rocks below. The Nelinski weren’t given much closure after the police tried to salvage what was left of her.

The Nelinski moved from the suburbs all the way out of town to the outskirts, away from heartless and indifferent neighbors and I could never really blame them.

I didn’t really know her but selfish would be the last thing I would correlate her with.

One thing to describe Melissa would be undiscovered.

She was terribly lonely, you could tell from a mile away. She was an undiscovered talent. She could sing with the most gorgeous voice that is rarely heard in school or even in any social settings. She preferred to make it her daily routine to stay as far away from everyone else as possible and she was a glimmering diamond hidden underneath the other obviously fake gems.

I’ve only talked with her for five times throughout middle school. She was gone by the time the second semester of freshmen year started and nobody in school could care less.

She was forgotten like yesterday’s news, obsolete and unimportant.

She moved on as well, like the others but instead she took a step too far from the cliff’s edge and ended her own misery.

“Why did you have to tell me?”

Of course there wouldn’t be any reply, any sane person would expect that but the silence is truly unacceptable for me. She was mean in that terms, she barely speaks while she’s alive and the muteness that lingered behind after her self-willing demise is totally unbearable.

I kept on coming here, to the Mel Hell Cliff ever since that uneventful day that she chose to jump and end it all. I kept on coming here once a month with the morbid air hanging down and low around me, just like the horribly coined name of the cliff.

“Why didn’t you just keep it to yourself?”

The strong and sometimes violent waves below crashing down onto the jagged rocks made a toned down reply. I didn’t appreciate the natural surrounding of this suicidal spot. It was reclusive, out of the way from other condescending minds but I’m pretty sure that Melissa didn’t choose to be in any sort of hell.
