Epilogue

Two years later

Nathan followed after his wife, turning his chair towards balcony railing. She wanted to try a new restaurant, but they ended up making a reservation on a busy night. He suggested they find somewhere quieter, but Mary insisted on staying. She'd be fine as long as she could focus on imagery less busy.

"Feeling better?" he signed.

He leaned his elbow on the table and watched her answer. "Yes and no."

"What do you mean?"

She wrinkled her lips as though she was biting back a smile. "I'm really hungry."

"What do you want to eat?" He asked before handing her a menu.

"Anything spicy."

He pulled his head back and eyed her suspiciously. Mary tossed him a look and nodded once.

"Why? This is the second week you've wanted spicy food."

He scratched his head and his eyes narrowed, still attempting to understand what was going on with her. He hoped she was okay but didn't want to raise any unnecessary panic if she was fine. Or is she hiding something, he thought.

The waiter approached them, and she pointed to the laminated menu before her eye lowered to the bottom of the sheet. Nathan surveyed the bottom of his menu, seeing the spicy key at the bottom using a number of peppers to indicate the spice level. He rolled his lips in, fighting to interject. He saw her look over the menu with a glint in her eyes. He couldn't afford to be picky at the moment and chose a random dish before the waiter left them alone again.

Exaggeratedly, Nathan asked, "What is going on?"

"Nothing." She chuckled at his deepened confusion masking his face.

"Please tell me. Are you okay?"

Mary showed her teeth as her face turned a little red. She faced the railing again and answered, "Pregnant."

When he didn't move, she cranked her head to see him. Shakily he repeated the sign, and she bounced in her seat, beaming with joy.

"Oh shit!" he whispered aloud. "Really?"

He stretched for the rail and hung his head. Mary observed him in awe with her nostrils flared. Then, his shoulders shook expressively. She tilted her head to see his face, but he raised his blank, red face.

"Bad?" she asked worriedly.

Nathan jumped up from his seat and around to her. Kneeling he grabbed her hand but looked at her stomach. He asked, "Is this real?"

She hurriedly pulled out the pregnancy test from her purse. He held it and read it carefully.

"I confirmed with my doctor. I'm eleven weeks."

Nathan looked heavenward with a smile. clenching down on his teeth releasing an excited growl. Quietly he exclaimed, "Yes!"

He looked at Mary's bugged eyes before wrapping his arms around her. She felt hot all over knowing people had to be looking at them. But when her husband rested his forehead to her belly and began weeping, she focused on him. The spoke about children early on. Having a few complications with conception over the last six months, she understood why he was overwhelmed. She and Nellie cried hearing the confirmation from her doctor. And now she felt her lover's passion for their new journey. Nathan raised his head and kissed her stomach.

"I love you." She grinned tearfully.

"I love you." He touched her stomach and laughed. "And you.
