i think we overestimate the power of love

i think we underestimate the power of love

because love is cliche and corny and cheesy and stupid and silly and childish and love will not cure every ache in us despite what hallmark stuffs down our throats

because love is destructive and hurtful and obsessive and selfish and it's too easy to lose and spouses have walked out on each other to pursue it somewhere else

because love is patient and kind and fulfilling and thoughtful and trusting and selfless and asks nothing in return and it will always preserver through the end of it all

it is something for the soul to be shared between people yet we love our books and our dogs and our money and ourselves and how the night sky stares back at us

the greeks had six separate definitions for love, each differing in definition. i think they were on to something, except i think there are more definitions to love than just what i can count on my fingers.

i don't know how to define love and i don't think i ever fully will because that would steal the beauty of such a thing. it only wastes time to try and diminish something language could never hope to touch into words we could never fully grasp in the first place.

the only truths i know are this:

love can save

love can wreck

love can heal

love can destroy

love can die

love can live

love will always exist somewhere and humanity will endlessly seek it

- a very long mess written from nowhere
