Chapter 7 - Mother's Knows Best

“Anak kain ka na,” Mary called Alex from the kitchen.

Alex decided to stay at his mom’s place and rest there after his friends left. He was too tired and sleepy to drive back to his own place. Without realizing it, he had fallen asleep on his bed. His mom kept a spare bedroom for him at her place for times like this or whenever he wants to spend time with her. He went down stairs and sat at the dining table.

“Wow! Niluto mo ung favorite ko. Thanks Ma, you’re really the best!!!” Alex exclaimed as he took the beefsteak and helped himself to a huge serving and then got rice.

“Syempre naman. Minsan ko lang makita ang favorite kong anak,” Mary said while she watched happily as Alex ate his favorite food.

“What are you talking about Ma? I’m you’re only child!” He answered back after he swallowed what was in his mouth.

“Kaya nga eh. You’re my one and only so I know you too well. Should I ask or will you spill the beans?”

“What are you talking about Ma?”

“Don’t play innocent with me, young man. Sige ka, mamumula yang tenga mo kapag di ka nagkwento kasi talagang mag-uusisa ako,” Mary threatened her son, knowing extremely well that Alex’s ears turns red when he gets embarrassed. Alex will definitely get embarrassed when she starts asking questions.

“Maaaaaa! Ikaw ha, minsan na nga lang tayo magkasalo kumain iniinis mo pa ko,” Alex was trying to avoid talking about it. He never keeps secrets from his mom but this was different. He himself doesn’t really understand what is going on, let alone what exactly he is feeling. He keeps trying rationalize with himself that he’s just getting too much into his character.

“Un nga eh. Minsan lang tayo magkasama and makapagkwentuhan kaya nga bilisan mo na magkwento para di ako mabitin,” Mary prodded.

“Wala naman kasi akong ikukwento.”

“Meron. Kilala kita. And I know for a fact that Sue is special. You bought her that bear and you even introduced her to me. So ano na?”

Alex’s ears turned red. He really can’t hide anything from his mom. But that’s natural. He was raised by his mom alone so she knew him inside out even when he tries to conceal his true emotions, she can still tell if there’s something going on.

“Okay, sige na nga.”

“Dali umpisahan mo na anak. Excited na ko!”

“Well, I met Sue that time sa Boracay. I mean, I met her before pa sa mga tapings ng ibang shows but wala naman kaming scene together so I just asked for a picture with her. Besides, ang alam ko may boyfriend sya non kahit na di nila inaamin na sila.” He began. “Remember si Jeremy? Yung nakakalaro ko sa basketball?”

“Yes I remember him. But go on.”

“Yon ung boyfriend nya. Anyways, nagkita kami sa Boracay nung nagvacation ako don tapos nakasama ko sila nila Matt kasi inaya nila ko mag-join sa group nila. Noon pa lang, I noticed na ang gaan ng feeling ko sa kanya. Parang ang sarap nyang kausap. Lahat masasabi ko sa kanya. But I kept telling myself na siguro nasasabik lang ako sa friends kasi naiwan ko mga friends ko sa Cali,” he went on. He paused for a moment to take a drink of water then he continued. “Yon, tapos nakakasama ko na sila ng madalas kasi nga girlfriend ni Matt si Marga and bestfriend nya yon. Then nagkataon na nakasama ko pa sya teleserye and sya ung leading lady pero hindi naman ako ung leading man kung hindi si JC. Don naging lalo pa kaming close kasi everyday kami magkakasama sa set. Ganon lang.”
