“One .. “

I take a deep breath.

   I position my elbows on the counter of the squirt gun booth. The guy with the silly hat has a whistle in his mouth.

“Two, “he says around the whistle.

  I can feel Sterling move to my right and I can feel Aiden stiffen to my left. They were both focused on the dartboard cut out thing in front of us.

  If I didn’t know better, it seemed as if they were trying to see who would win.

The bet hangs in the air and I close one eye and my finger twitches on the trigger that I would push down to have the water sprout out.

I take in another breath and then I hear the whistle blow.

“Three!”

I push down hard on the trigger and water shoots out. I still have my right eye closed and I’m leaning into the booth, my elbows holding my weight.

 I hear the other people’s water guns next to me going off, but I am focused on the task at hand.

I didn’t care if anyone in this booth beat me. Everyone could except for Aiden.

 He wanted that kiss and I wanted to know why he was here. I want to look up and see how high my water is.

  I want to look over and see if Aiden is beating me, but I have to focus on the little black dot and how I needed to aim right at it to win.

I hear a buzz ring out and its form someone further down. My palms sweat and the forty seconds it takes to play this game feels a whole lot longer.

 A buzz goes off to my right and I know Sterling has made it to the top.

I risk the chance of looking up and I see the water in my tube, heading to the buzzer.

 Almost there.

I focus back on the board. I got this, I know I did, all I had to do was stay focused on the –

“Buzzz!”

  The sound of the buzzer rings out right to my left and I feel my heart drop.

   His buzz is followed by mine and all of a sudden I drop the water gun and curse under my breath.

Aiden has won.

I look over at him to see an arrogant smile on his face. His eyes meet mine and the smile grows bigger.

   He knows I have to pay up but I can’t at this moment. Not with everyone watching.

Which is good because I wanted to reach over and smack that smile right off his face.

 Though, let’s be honest, if I would have won I would have been wearing the same smile.

“Second place, choose a prize. “ I hear the guy say and I see Sterling scratch his head and look at me.
