Slideshow of the Collins family on the side!

Chapter 3

I shouldn’t have been surprised, not really, when I met Carmen and she was a stunning latina with long brown hair and a charming smile. She seemed nice and welcome, and brought me into a hug before I could even open my mouth to introduce myself.

“Oh Samantha, it’s so nice that you’re living with us,” she exclaimed. She drew back from the hug to look at me, “You’re so beautiful, a little skinny but we’ll fix that in no time!”

I couldn’t help but blush at her words, I wasn’t really used to people saying stuff like that to me.

She gasped, “Oh my, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable, I’m sorry dear.”

“It’s fine,” I assured her, “It’s nice to meet you Ms. Collins.”

“Carmen,” She corrected, “We’re all family here.”

Again with the family word… I didn’t quite know what to make of that, but I saw Luke beam at his wife from the side and it made me feel slightly more secure in this new environment.

I noticed the younger boy standing behind Carmen, and so I bent down to his eye level, “Hi there, what’s your name?”

He smiled shyly at me, “Taylor.” He was absolutely adorable with his blonde hair which didn’t seem to want to lay properly in any direction.

“Really?” I fake gasped, “My middle name is Taylor!”

His eyes widened, “But you’re not a boy.”

“I’m not?” I tried to hide my smile, but it slowly crept onto my face.

He shook his head vigorously, “Daddy? Why does she have a boy name?”

Luke only laughed, “Or,” he paused for the effect, “You have a girl’s name.”

He walked into the restaurant we were waiting outside of and Taylor ran after while shouting questions at his father. I couldn’t help but smile at how adorable he was, “How old is he?” I asked Carmen.

We trailed behind as Luke continued to mock his son, “Eight,” She said, and I could see by her smile that she was really happy with her family.

“He’s adorable.”

“He knows how to charm people, so be careful because before you know it he’ll have you wrapped around his little finger and have you running laps for him,” She joked.

I laughed out loud and saw Luke turn around to look at me, “Somehow I don’t think you’re lying.”

Dinner was the fanciest I’d ever had, why did they have to serve you in three turns anyway, why not just serve you the food you ordered and let you eat it? I’d never understood this. But regardless of it being the fanciest dinner of my life – and believe me I felt highly underdressed in my ripped jeans amongst all the designer clothes – it was also the best. The food tasted like heaven mixed with whatever else out there which is better, I am not joking when I say it was to die for!

During dinner Carmen had gotten it out of Luke how I had just arrived with a backpack, which she soon found out only held two changes of clothes. I swear that woman could get a mute person to tell her what she wanted. Regardless of her being a really nice person, she was also very persistent and would not take no for an answer when I told her a shopping spree was really not necessary.
