Hermione’s POV

November 1

The pain knocked the breath right out of me, my unconscious mind quickly waking up from its sleep. The pain burst through my chest and I let out a blood curling scream. The scorching agony traveled through my body, making its way to my toes and fingertips, the pain rushing to my brain. My head exploded and it felt as if there was someone smashing a hammer onto my head. I could feel sweat drench my small frame and my body become an inferno.

I arched my back, my body once more contorting into odd positions, as if I was under the crucio curse. I screamed and I cried and I screamed again, rational thoughts far from my mind as the pain that just wouldn’t stop engulfed me and kept me in its grasps.

The pain didn’t seem to have an end, it just continued to come and come again. Wave after wave of the torturing pain, it slowly drifted away. The flaming agony retreating to my palms, feeling as if they were thrust into a fire and were being roasted. I moaned and groaned and cried again, however thankful that the pain was centered in only one part of my body. Finally the pain dissolved and I was left panting and drenched on my bed.

I slowly opened my eyes, my vision blurry and my eyes sore from either the pain that washed over me a few moments before or from all the crying I had done earlier. My eyes finally gained focus and I took in my surroundings. The room glowing with a green hue, the fire crackling in the distance.

“Mistress, are you okay?” My faithful albino snake asked me.

I forcefully made my aching body sit upright, my back leaning against the back board of my bed. I liked my dry lips with my tongue and made myself swallow whatever saliva I could muster down my raw throat. I looked at my snake which was at the end of my bed, slowly slithering to me and resting its reptilian head on my lap.

“I’m fine,” I managed to croak out, my voice hoarse.

I whispered a spell in my head and instantly a small glass of water was on my bed side table. My body still aching from the torture I was previously in prevented me from reaching over and grabbing the water. Absentmindedly I did a motion with my right hand and the small glass of water instantly came into my grasps.  I looked at it with curiosity; I was getting better with my new acquainted powers.

I brought the glass to my lips and the cool liquid danced on my tongue and caressed my throat, refreshing my dehydrated body. Instantly I could feel my new found strength take hold of me, the aching in my bones and muscles gone in an instant. My body glowed a green color and instantly faded away; leaving me feeling renewed and awakened.

“How long was I…” I trailed off my sentence, not knowing how to really phrase my question. But Aime being unified with my mind and feelings knew what I wished to ask.

“Ten hours Mistress.” Aime replied.

I eyes opened in shock. Only ten hours? Maybe my father was right. Maybe with time the pain does get better. This pain I experienced was definitely less painful than before, that was for sure.

“What time is it?” I asked him.

“I know not Mistress.”

“It’s eleven.” A voice said to my left.

I turned to look in the direction of the voice and saw my many times great grandfather standing in his portrait. His face had a thoughtful expression on. His white blonde hair contrasting to the background of his darkened portrait and his green blue eyes staring at me, analyzing me.

“Mistress, Terence Higgs had called for you down from the stairs earlier.” Aime told me.

“What did he want?” I asked him looking away from my grandfather and instead at my snake, his red eyes looking intently at me.
