Chapter Eight ~ Sapphire

Where is he? Where is Zhi Kai? I wondered as the minute ticked closer towards 7.30am. He's gonna be late if he doesn't come now.

Then as if God was listening, Zhi Kai appeared. "Thank you, God." I whispered before hurrying towards Zhi Kai. "Hi." he greeted me.

"Why you so late?" I asked. "I made a detour on the way to school. To buy you this." he presented to me a beautiful red rose.

"Omigosh. I don't know what to say." I stared at the flower. Zhi Kai handed it to me and hugged me. "Happy Valentine Day." he whispered.

"Happy Valentine Day." I hugged him back. "Anyway, I reserved a table at Pasta Mania at Hougang Mall. At 7pm sharp, I want to see you there."

"Sure." Zhi Kai smiled and my heart melt. I smiled back and said. "Be there or beware."

Zhi Kai laughed. Guess I didn't look like a danger to him. "Quick. Put your bag down before we are late." I reminded him. He nodded and followed my intructions. We walked to the hall together, just before the bell rang.

As Mrs Wong began her list of announments, Emerald whispered to me. "The dinner's still at 7, right?"

"Yeah." Emerald kept asking me this type of questions since early in the morning when I realize it was Valentine Day.

Speaking of which, why did I forget? I wasn't the type to fuss about Valentine Day but I certainly wasn't the type of people to forget about it even though I had a boyfriend.

"Okay, go back to classes now." Mrs Wong's voice broke my train of thoughts. I quickly followed Emerald to 2G.

"Are you okay?" Zhi Kai asked, seeing my worried look on my face. I smiled to show him I'm fine. I'm probably the luckiest girl in the world to have Zhi Kai as my boyfriend.

When we were sitted in the classroom and were ready, Miss Lee walked in. I had learnt previously that she was actually Zhi Kai's older sister. It was funny how I discovered the fact. I smiled as my mind difted off...

~Flashback~

"So, x is 59 and y is 127?" Zhi Kai said, looking at his homework.

"Yes." I answered. "Do you understand how to do this question now?" It was afternoon, after school and I was teaching Zhi Kai how to solve a Maths sum.

"Yeah, I get it. Thanks for helping me." Zhi Kai replied, grinning and I smiled back. Just then, Miss Lee walked past our table. The two of us stood up and greeted her. "Good afternoon Miss Lee."

She nodded her head and said to Zhi Kai, "Meet me at the general office." Zhi Kai nodded.

Once Miss Lee left, I faced Zhi Kai. "What happened? Are you in trouble?" Why did Miss Lee wanted to meet him?

"What? I'm not in trouble. Jie just wanted me to go home with her." Zhi Kai replied, laughing.

Wait. What? "Jie? Miss Lee is your sister?" I asked, surprised. This was news to me.

"Yeah. Miss Lee is my Jie. Can't you see our surnames? I'm a Lee and so is she." Zhi Kai pointed out a matter-of-factly.

That's right. I should have figured that out. "But Lee is a sibeh common surname in Singapore so not my fault lor." I retorted, in a bid to defend myself.

Zhi Kai looked at me before bursting into laughter. "You very cute sia."

Huh? This does not make any sense at all. "Very funny meh?" I hate not knowing things.

"Obviously lah! I thought you is very quiet one but you are actually very witty." Zhi Kai replied, grinning at me.

"You're not the first person to say that to me." I informed him in a quiet voice. Everyone really judges a book by its cover. I looked down, hiding my face from Zhi Kai.

There was a short silence. "Sapphire." Zhi Kai lifted my chin, making me look up. I was surprised to see concern in his eyes. "You are nothing like your sister, okay? You are you and nobody else."

I gasped out in surprise. This was the first time someone ever told this to me. Zhi Kai knew me better than anyone. Better than Emerald and even better than myself.

Grabbed by a sudden urge, I leaned forward and Zhi Kai did the same, closing the distance between us. I don't know what was gonna happen and I never did. Thanks to a certain twin sister of mine.

"Sapphire! Where are you?" Emerald's voice sang out. Zhi Kai and I broke apart immediately, blushing a deep red, even though we did nothing wrong or undecent.

"There you are!" Emerald finally spotted us. She quickly ran over to us. Her sharp eyes quickly noticed both our red faces and she said, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." The two of us muttered quickly and Emerald narrowed her eyes but didn't say anything. Instead, she turned to me and said, "It's already 5.25pm. We should go home before the sky turns dark."

I glanced at my blue wrist watch. Crap. Emerald was right. It's late. I quickly put my things into my school bag before facing Zhi Kai. "Sorry, we have to go home now. At least you learnt something."

"Yeah. Thanks for being my tutor." Zhi Kai said to me and I blushed. "It's nothing." I mumbled under my breath but I think he heard it.

"Time is gold." Emerald reminded me, tapping her foot impatiently and I stood up from my chair. Zhi Kai followed me.

"So it's goodbye?" He half said, half asked. Was it me or did he sound disappointed to see me leave?

"We can still see each other next Monday." I informed him and Zhi Kai smiled.

"That's right. Bye then."

"Bye!"

~End Flashback~

"Sapphire!" I jolted. I looked up to see a angry Miss Lee. I turned around to discovered the whole class staring at me. Oh no...

"Stop daydreaming and pay attention!" Miss Lee told me and left it at that. The class stopped looking at me after that and I heaved a sigh of relief. Then I caught sight of Zhi Kai and my worries disappeared. Oh, I can't wait for our dinner!
