Pink Peonies ~ Peonies, which come in many different colors and varieties, are known as the flower of riches and honor. The lush, full blooms embody romance, prosperity, and good fortune.

My head hung low as I laid my back against the damp stone wall of my cell, tears staining my face. Many thought ran through her mind:

Where is Maroon?

Is he safe?

Will he really try to save me?

What if he gets shot down? It would be all my fault...

My thoughts were cut off by the sound of the dungeon door opening, and slamming shut. Both Jamie and I sat up more in our cells as we waited to see who it was. It was Mister Scar-Face and another, more timid-looking, guard, both holding small tin trays of food.

The timid guard opened Jamie's cell, placing the food down on the floor before closing the door. Jamie rushed to the food and began to eat like a wild animal.

I watched as the scar-faced guard opened my cell, and closed it behind him with a smirk plastered onto his face. Small whimpers escaped me as he drew near. That only made his smile widen," Here you go, traitor." he stated coldly, placing the tray of food in front of me.

A small smile appeared on my face at the sight of the food; I had been starving. And being pregnant, I had to make sure I was eating, for them. I reached out towards the food, but was stopped. I looked behind me as saw that my wings were holding my back. I tugged on them a bit, but it only caused a tremendous amount of pain. I looked back up at the guard with pleading eyes, hoping he would push the food over.

But he just smiled a wicked smile," Aww...little angel can't reach her food?" he teased, smirking down at me.

I weakly nodded, my hand reached out to try and grab the tray," P..Please. P-Push it towards me...?" I begged, little tears forming in the corners of my eyes.

The guard let out a deep and dark chuckle before slapping my hand away," Of course I wouldn't! Why would I?" he laughed.

" Hey! Leave her alone!" Jamie shouted, holding the bars of the cell.

" Y-Yeah...I would have to agree with the prisoner..." the timid guard added, keeping his gaze on the floor.

" Are you trying to defy me?!" The scar-faced guard question, glaring at his partner.

" O-O-Of course not! B-But the king said-"

" To keep her in one piece. And as you can see," he gestured toward me,"she is still in one piece, just some minor bruises."

" Minor? MINOR! There are nails in her wings!" Jamie growled, shaking on the bars he was holding on to," Just let her eat you jerk!"

" Don't make me come over there!" The scar-faced guard snapped, glaring at Jamie. But Jamie didn't back down, he kept glaring at the guard with hatred in his eyes. The scar-faced guard turned back to me a slapped me across my face, leaving a big, red, mark on my cheek. Tears spilled from my eyes as I held my cheek in pain, stinging from my touch," Aww...look. The little angel is crying..."

" Pick on someone your own size!" Jamie yelled.

" Last warning!" the guard snapped.

The scar-faced guard bent down in front of me. I hung my head low to avoid his gaze, but he grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him," If food is what you want," he began, whispering in my ear when he said,"...then you'll have to rip your wings for it..." he stood back up, a wicked smile on his face.

What is this guy's problem?!

" Y-You monster..."

" No; I am not the one you fell in love with."

" How dare you speak so illy of him!" I snap, tears gushing out of my eyes as I glared up at the scar-faced guard," How can you be so cruel?!"

" Temper, temper!" the guard laughed, which only fueled my anger towards him; I have never hated someone so much in my life.

" No one -no matter the crime- deserves this kind of treatment!" I argue," Our wings are what make us angels! It's how we stay alive, we can't live without them!"

" Calm down princess," the guard begins," I am only doing this so you don't have to have your wings ripped in front of everyone tomorrow."

" Leave her alone already!" Jamie screamed, and that seemed to be his last straw.

" That's it! I am coming over there and pinning your wings to the wall!" The scar-faced guard stated, turning his back on me.

And that for me, was the last straw.

I can't remember what happened.

But all I saw was red, then everything went black...
