Hey, my name is Tia Jones. I lived in a rough neighborhood in Cleveland, OH, St. Clair. It's your typical hood where drugs are sold to the crackheads, girls are selling their bodies, and gangs roam the streets. But me, I wanted to do something different with my life, not live here anymore. I wanted to get away from the streets and become something more; I just didn't know what yet.

I'm 19 years old, just graduated high school, but my life got worse once I found out my mom had cancer. Nobody knew until the very end.

I arrived home one day, calling out, "Mom, I'm home!" My mom greeted me warmly, the aroma of chicken noodle soup filling the air. "Hey, sweetie, what you cooking? It smells good," I exclaimed.

"Chicken noodle soup, your favorite," she replied with a smile.

"You shouldn't have," I teased.

"Oh, shut up, girl," she chuckled. "So, did you talk to your dad?"

My heart sank. My father and I didn't have the best relationship. He walked out on me when I was a baby, and now he was trying to worm his way back into my life. "No, for what, Mom? I know you feel some type of way about what happened with us, but can you please talk to him for me?"

I sighed, trying to push aside my resentment. But then, my mom started coughing and collapsed to the floor. "Mom!" I rushed to her side, panic coursing through me, and dialed 911.

As the ambulance whisked her away, my mind raced with fear and uncertainty. I called my friend, Mya, to share the news. "Girl, my mom just collapsed. I had to call 911," I explained, feeling overwhelmed.

"OMG, Tia! Is she okay? And are you okay?" Mya's voice reflected genuine concern.

"I don't know, Mya. She said she was fine, but she's been sick lately, and I'm really worried," I admitted.

"You should check things out to make sure she's not hiding anything from you," Mya suggested.

"Yeah, you're right, Mya. But I'm about to ride out with Charles really quick," mya said, I called her to distract myself from the worry gnawing at my insides.

"Umm, okay. Talk to you later, girl. Bye," Mya replied, her concern evident even through the phone.

I hung up, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside me. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of a tumultuous journey that would challenge everything I thought I knew about life, love, and loyalty.

As Tia navigates the complexities of her surroundings, her outward appearance remains a testament to her inner strength. With each step she takes, she carries herself with a quiet confidence, a beacon of hope amidst the chaos of her environment.
