                                            Prologue

It wasn’t meant to turn out this way. My life was meant to be simple: Grow old, buy 100 cats, and die of them scratching my eyes out or something. I wasn’t meant to die here. Hell, I wasn’t meant to die for another 60 years or something! But here I am. Life sure has a twisted sense of humour. Here I am, putting my neck on the line for creatures who are meant to be mythical. But I know their real. I can see them now. Surrounding me. Making a line behind me. Lining up to fight. Lining up to die. I know I’m kidding myself though. In the simple life I had planned out for myself, I would have died of boredom before my cats got to me. I like cats. You see these are the ramblings of someone in shock. In shock that their going to die at 22. In shock that their going to die at all. But I’m ready. Ready to die, no. But ready to fight… Yes. I will fight for them. Because they’re the only beings I have left.

“CHARGE!”

                                             Chapter One

‘WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!’ I rolled over and turned of my alarm clocks screeching voice, and then cursed myself quietly for not remembering to turn it off last night. I mean, who wants to wake up at 6:00 on a Sunday morning? Not me. I shoved off my cover and got out of my bed. I might as well get up. I strolled over to my dresser and picked up my hair brush and a hair tie, studying myself in the full length mirror next to my spot. I had long curly red hair, with black streaks I’d put in last year on my 21st. My skin was very pale-no matter how long I spent out in the sun, It always stayed looking like soft marble. If you can understand. You probably can’t. But that’s OK. My eyes are a brilliant green, with the occasional gold fleck. I have a narrow sort of face, but in a good way. Yeah. So that’s me. I tied my hair up and changed into a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt, along with my favourite pair of converse. Then I was walking out of my apartment for another day in New York City.
