The Wonder of Life

When I was born on that warm summer's day,

Out into a world so scary and new,

Not knowing my path in the cradle I lay,

Devoted to growing and seeing life through.

Everything scary, everything new,

Really it's wonder, a wonder so true.

Wearing my blazer, my tie, shirt and crest,

Onwards and upwards such knowledge awaits,

Nearing such intrigue, such friendship, such tests,

Daring to wonder what lies past those gates.

Everyone's learning, following the rules,

Really it's wonder, the wonder of school.

Who can one turn to when saddened or doubting,

Or angry or nervous or feeling that hate,

Now they're so loyal, always there,
never flouting,

Doting and trusting - just being a mate.

Everyone's smiling through a friendship that cares,

Really there's a wonder that everyone shares.

Working and worrying what trial lies ahead,

Over and over and over once more,

Neglecting my free time: work, eat then bed,

Doubting my future, becoming a bore.

Everyday tiresome, craving for more,

Really there's wonder of what lies in store.

Where can one find such comfort and succour,

Once with a lover so tender and kind?

Never without her, if so I would suffer

Deep heart-ache. A love that is so hard to find.

Everything joyous a blessing from above,

Really it's wonder, the wonder of love.

Wailing and bawling all through the night,

Only sleeping as off goes the morning alarm,

Never before have I see such a light,

Draped in a blanket, there in my arms.

Everyday tired, can't open my lids,

Really there's wonder, the wonder of kids.

Where has the time gone? Life's passing us by,

Old age approaching with sadness, regret,

Never take life for granted, it's precious, that's why,

Don't argue or squabble, forgive and forget.

Everything's calmer, I can see past the rage,

Really it's wonder, the wonder of age.

We rarely consider what great times we've had,

Only in the dying of that glorious light,

Nearing the end we can see past what's bad,

Death's another journey, a passage that's right.

Everything's over yet through pain and strife,

Really it's wondrous, the wonder of life!
