Enjoy!

The music thumped through the club noisily and the smell of alcohol was strong in the club, it was ironic how exactly two years ago I’d gone to pick up my underage sister from a party and met Jay. But that was the past. I ran up to Isabella and Maria who were sitting at the bar with their mates,

“I missed you guys!” I hugged them and their mates before sitting down we hadn’t met together for a long time partly because their college was an hour and a half away.

“We missed you so much Carmen!” Isabella squealed,

“So is this the Darren?” Maria glared over to my boyfriend also a werewolf, who was standing awkwardly next to me,

“Yeah it is. Isabella, Maria, this is Tyler and Conner this is Darren.” He smiled at the girls and exchanged a “What’s up” with the boys,

“So…Darren, what are your intentions with our best friend?” Isabella gave her best glare to him but he didn’t seem fazed, I gave the twins a “Seriously” look,

“To be faithful to her, love her, treat her right and someday marry her.” He kissed my cheek softly and securely wrapped his arm around my waist,

“Awww!” Maria cooed,

“Bugsy bride of honour!” Isabella exclaimed, Maria’s face fell and turned to her sister,

“That’s not fair! I want to be bride of honour too.”

“Well there can’t be two!” Isabella exclaimed adamantly,

“Guys! You can both be the brides of honour, I’ll have two.” They hugged me once again nearly sending me to the ground but Darren steadied me,

“So how are your weddings coming along?” they’d both sent me invitations a couple of weeks ago, deciding to have it on the same day, Isabella and Maria had called me nearly every single day asking for ideas and help. Almost instantly they started clamouring over each other to get in every detail about their up-coming wedding. Darren and the guys had been talking about football and other ‘interesting’ things all this time obviously bored with our wedding conversation.

“Do you want to dance?” Darren held his hand out for me, I looked at Isabella and Maria to tell them I was going to dance but they’d already caught on and were wiggling their eyebrows suggestively, I rolled my eyes at them and followed Darren onto the dance floor.

“Did you really mean what you said about marrying me?” I rested my head on his shoulder and moved to the beat of Lady Gaga’s song,

“Yeah, I did. Do you want to get married to me?” I looked up into his soft blue eyes,

“More than anything.” He leaned down to reach my face, his 6ft4 frame huge compared to my 5ft8 frame, he kissed me and I responded back. I felt so safe in his arms like nothing could hurt me, we broke apart and I lent my forehead on his, as I looked into his eyes I realised there’d be nowhere else in the world I wanted to be more; not even Jay’s arms.

“What desert do you want, babe?” we were all in a small but nice restaurant near Darren and I’s apartment,

“Do you have to ask? Chocolate cake please.” The waiter took all our orders and then disappeared off to the kitchen, it reminded me of my waitress days for Chico, it had been hard saying goodbye to him. It had been hard saying bye to everyone; mum was in tears for days according to Alex. I was snapped out of my daydream when the waiter returned to our table with our desert; he gave me a knowing smile before standing at the edge of our table with a camera. That was weird.

“Do you want to cut the cake?” Darren asked every other Friday we came to this restaurant we’d get one whole chocolate cake to share and then the rest would be taken home, it was our little tradition. I picked up the knife and poised it over the cake to cut it but what I saw stopped me, my hand had stopped above the cake in shock. Was this a prank or maybe I’m dreaming?

“Oh my God.” I whispered softly, the icing on the cake had something written on it, ‘Will you marry me?’ to be exact, I was pulled up and stood in front of a kneeling Darren. He took out a box from his jacket pocket and opened it; in it was the most beautiful ring I’d seen. It had a shiny platinum band and three diamonds crested in a row.

“Carmen, you stole my heart the first day I met you in the Psychology lecture last period of the day.” I laughed as I remembered the day we first met, he’d practically forced me into going out with him,

“ I knew you were the one I wanted to grow old with, I know you’ve been mistreated in the past but I promise I will do you right and never hurt you. So will you marry me?” my eyes had tears in them as I looked down at him,

“Yes, yes, yes!” he slid the ring on my finger and I jumped onto him wrapping my legs around him as soon as he stood up, I was aware of a camera clicking in the background- that’s what that waiter was doing! I kissed Darren with everything I had, the feel of him sent my body alight, warmth radiated from all over my body, I broke apart from the kiss with a gasp,

“I love you Carmen, very much.” Darren whispered into my ear,

“I love you too Darren, so much.”

I could now say that losing Jay had been the best thing that had ever happened in my life.
