Pack meeting, he said. This was definitely no pack meeting, the intense anger building up in me was nothing I’d ever felt before. Even when Gloria and Alex seemed to go out on three day benders, Jay lying to me seemed to hurt so much more. I walked up to Jay making sure to keep my face in a relaxed smile but I’m pretty sure from the outside it looked fake, I tapped his shoulder gently he turned around obviously oblivious that I was here, as he recognised me his smile faltered,
“Can I please talk to you?” I grabbed his hand, roughly, and dragged him up the stairs. The teens probably thought we were going to one of the bedrooms to get laid but this was far from it. Once we were in his bedroom I let go of his hand,
“You said you had to go to a pack meeting. This is hardly a pack meeting, it’s a fucking party!” I turned towards him; he looked guilty and kind of sorry,
“I only lied because I didn’t think you would let me go!” I was shocked, did he think I would say that, I was getting over my problems with the pack now,
“You really think I would’ve said that! I would have come with you, you didn’t have to lie about it!” I ran a hand through my hair angrily and sighed,
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking straight.” I scoffed mentally, he wasn’t thinking at all.
“Do you want to come down to the party?” to be honest I didn’t feel in the party mood at all, I still didn’t get why he lied to me. He could’ve just told me what he was doing,
“No thanks. I’m just going to stay up here.” I smiled weakly at him,
“Alright, call if you need me and I’m sorry Carmen.” He kissed me gently before slinking out the room. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to sleep with all the noise downstairs so I decided to go and find Mike.

I pushed past the throng of dancing people, trying to locate Mike in the crowd. I didn’t have to look far because he was where I thought he’d be. The pack room,
“Hi Carmen.” He was sitting behind the desk going through some papers, wasn’t Jay supposed to do those? I sat in the opposite chair from him,
“Isn’t Jay supposed to do those?” I nodded towards the huge stack of paper,
“Yeah, but he’s partying so I’m second choice.” I grimaced at that,
“Tell me what to do and I’ll help you.” I rolled up my sleeves and prepared myself,
“I couldn’t ask you to do that!” he genuinely looked shocked that I’d proposed something like that,
“Seriously it’s no bother, Jay’s partying and I have nothing else to do.” I shrugged,
“Well if you don’t mind can you add all these sums up?” I took the papers he was holding in front of me, I had no problem adding up but couldn’t you do this on Excel?
“How come you don’t use Excel?”
“Oh, I can’t because it’s all the money from the “extra” deals and say the police raid us, they’ll look on the computers.” I grimaced at that piece of information,
“Basically it’s easier to get rid of any evidence.” I clarified; Mike gave me a sad smile and a nod before going back to this pile.

It was two AM and the party was still going strong, my fingers were numb and my back ached,
“What do you say we go and grab something to eat?” I asked Mike,
“You’re not going to find anything to eat in the kitchen.” I laughed,
“I know, I meant somewhere else.” He looked even more puzzled,
“Carmen it’s two in the morning. No shop is opened let alone restaurant.” I laughed even harder,
“Come on grab the keys and I’ll show you.” We quickly made our way out of the house and into the car,
“Where to?” he asked once we were in the warm interior of the car, just because we were werewolves didn’t mean we couldn’t get cold.
“My house and then Chico’s Diner.” He started his car and we were off,
“So do you have any brothers and sisters?” Mike asked me,
“Yeah, and you’ll definitely know them. Alex and Gloria.” He smirked at me,
“Yeah, I definitely know them for all the wrong reasons.” I laughed; Mike was such a sweet guy and deserved the best, I couldn’t believe any girl would reject him. Before Jay he was the type of guy I would’ve gone for.
“What about you?” I looked at him, this time I really studied him. He had dark, short hair and hazel eyes with gold flecks in them he was pretty tall and wasn’t as muscly as Jay but it suited him,
“Yeah, a 15 year old brother-Manny and a 13 year old sister, Beth.” When he spoke about them he spoke with such proudness, if only I could do that for Alex and Gloria.
“How old are you Mike?”  He smirked at me,
“Why do you want to know?” I rolled my eyes at him,
“I’m just asking.” I shrugged, trying to ignore his jibe,
“I’m just joking, I’m 22. What about you?” he was 22!
“I’m 18; I can’t believe you’re older than Jay! To be honest I think you’d run this pack better.” I blushed as I complimented him; he laughed loudly making me jump,
“You really think so?” he asked sceptically
“Yeah. I mean you sacrifice loads for the pack and you don’t even like most of their schemes.”
“Thank you.” He smiled; he pulled up my house and killed the engine,
“Wait here I’m going to get the keys.” I ran inside my house quickly and got the keys from my bedroom. I would never leave them elsewhere; God knows what Gloria or Alex would do with them!
“Why do we need keys to get into a restaurant?” Mike asked as I got back into the car,
“We’re eating at Chico’s diner that’s why.”

The rest of the short journey was spent in comfortable silence. I wondered what Jay was doing right now; I hope he wasn’t cheating on me with some girl. I don’t think I could take that, I’d let down my barriers for him. With a start I realised that we’d arrived at the diner so I quickly got out.

I was trying to find the correct keys to unlock the door but Chico had so many damn keys!
“I didn’t realise you owned Chico’s diner.” I smiled at that,
“I don’t, I work here.” I finally found the right key and was glad to get out of the cold,
“Are you allowed to do this, because I don’t want you getting into trouble?  We could always go to McDonalds.” Mike was just too sweet,
“Nah, Chico’s like my dad.” I switched on just a lamp; I didn’t want to attract any unnecessary attention. I grabbed my apron, from the hook and walked up to where Mike was sitting,
“So Mike, what can I get you!” I beamed at him.
