There is no such thing as fate.

That's what Serena had always thought before she met Ash Ketchum. She wanted to have nothing to do with unnecessary trouble. The least thing she expected was for the school's heartthrob to take an interest in her.

She tapped her foot anxiously as their history teacher, Ms. Juniper called out names of the pairings for the history project.

The honey haired girl confidentially snuck a glance behind her. She immediately spun her head back to the front when the heartthrob waved at her with a nonchalant grin. Her original plan was to spill her past, and then have nothing else to do with him.

But it was now obvious that it wasn't going to happen.

Ever since she told Ash her past, for some strange reason, the boy began to attend classes daily. And what's more, almost all of their classes are planned together. Whatever the reason may be, she knew one thing for sure.

Ash was smarter than she thought.

As her thoughts processed, the honey blonde could feel all the female students' glares burning a hole at the back of her head. Serena narrowed her eyes at Ash as he continues to grin at her, not giving a care in the world.

What was this—some cliché romance storyline?

"Pairing number 7, Ash Ketchum and Serena Yvonne." Miss Juniper's voice echoed the classroom. In that instant, three events occurred.

The girls all wailed in disappointment and the boys used that chance to start chatting.

Ash yawned.

Serena sighed in defeat.

Yes. Before she met him, she had never believed in fate, luck, or anything along those lines. But this was the fifth time she had been put into a pairing with Ash. Was this a coincidence? She didn't not know, nor did she care. Was this fair? Obviously not.

"Come on, otaku-chan~!" Ash stood up.

"Stop calling me that," Serena grumbled as the two walked to the front of the room to obtain the instruction sheet and materials.

They sat by a desk by the corner of the room. Serena could feel all the eyes glued onto them (mainly Ash) as they worked. She looked at Ash, who didn't seem to mind at all.

"What are you planning now?" She said in a low voice where only he could hear her. The raven haired boy looked at her and shrugged.

"What makes you think that I'm planning something?" He said with an amused smile. Serena only glared at him which caused Ash to raise his hands in defence.

"It wasn't my fault. The teachers did the pairing."

"Why are you coming to school? I though skipping was your thing?" She pursued further. Ash just looked at her with an exaggerated surprised expression.

"Otaku-chan, from what I know, going to school was a good thing. I don't think there is anything wrong with attending school."

Serena rolled her eyes. Despite his arrogant attitude, that she couldn't argue with.

Serena spent the rest of class trying to get work done in quiet and peace. Well—at least she tried to.
