The moon shone bright against the cold dark night
Yet I saw nothing as if everything's out of sight
I sat there, on the deck, waiting for a shade of light
The freezing wind prickled my skin as I wrapped my arms tight
Afar I saw a sparkling silver halo – a dim silhouette half hidden
There the creature stood beside a tree, watching me, crestfallen
My heart ached – like fire against ice – and yearned to own its burden
I looked at the figure and everything else was blurred, forgotten
It shrank back, away from the silver light across the snow-coated ground
Making only its golden yellow eyes visible while the moon frowned
As the light faded, the shadow crept in again, dimming the night's shade
A paw stepped closer, the wolf stepped closer, my wolf, body frayed
He whimpered, his breath came out like fog, and looked at me with tawny eyes
I went and knelt beside him; with his nose, he stroked my palm, as if saying, 'it's not yet time for goodbyes'
Brushing tears that escaped my eyes, I ran a hand along his iron thick hair, and smiled
With a blink, he was again all I ever knew, all I ever wanted; looking at those yellow human eyes, I stood beguiled.

Poems of the Deep Dark Heart
PoetryThis is a collection of my poems inspired by the novels I've read. Others are inspired by completely different things. Some are sonnets, some are not, some are just out of the blue. © 24CasterXAngel1878, 2008-2012
