I couldn't help but scream.

Because holy shit.

It hurt like hell.

A hand pressed to my mouth, and I struggled as I tried to get free.

There was a needle attached to my arm, and another one on the other side.

I wanted to cry, but I knew that I couldn't.

Michael could have been right outside.

I needed to be strong for him.

Because I knew that he wasn't going to be.

"Shh," the nurse hushed me and she reached over for a cloth.

I kicked and shoved her hand away.

A gust of fresh air erupted into my lungs, and I felt

my throbbing head die down again.

Thank God for that.

She looked down at me like I was a bug she wanted to squish.

Hell, I wanted to squish her too.

Bitch.

I swallowed and lifted a limp arm off the bed.

Glancing to the side, I watched as my blood

dripped into a half-full bag.

How many had I filled up?

Minutes ticked by, and I could feel myself growing weak.

I squirmed on the bed and forced my eyes to stay open.

Nope. I wasn't ready to go yet.

The nurse smiled down at me with a cold and forced smile.

"You're very brave," she told me. "Giving up blood for your friend."

I nodded in reply, to weak to even open my mouth.

If Shane didn't survive this, I was going to be pissed.

I let out a whimper as they pulled the needles out from my arms.

I licked my dry lips and watched them as they walked out.

Hey, wait, my mouth opened to form silent words.

I felt like shouting, screaming at them.

Hey! Dying girl in here?

But they didn't look back at me.

They didn't stop or anything.

They left the room and closed the door behind me.

"Don't panic," a cool voice said from behind me.

I tried twisting around, but I was too weak to even move.

Cold fingers danced over my cheek, and I looked up

to see the Ice Queen standing over me.

"Shane is alive," the Founder told me. "The transfusion went well."

I tried opening my mouth again, but my muscles protested against it.

"Myrnin just needs to collect a few things from his lab, and Shane will

be as fit as ever."

Me?

My lips could only form one word, but Amelie smiled softly.

She had understood my question.

"Surprisingly, you have a litre or two of blood left in your body.

That nurse over there wanted to drain you. I decided against it."

Amelie pushed dark hair off my forehead, her palm pressing against

my cold and pale forehead.

"You won't die today, Eve," Amelie told me. "You will remain human, but

you know what is bound to happen if you stay with Michael.

Immortality will become you. Just not today."
