Crumble

Ancient walls of stone,
What have your eyes seen,
Throughout all of time,
Since you have been standing?
Have you heard confessions,
From your resting place,
Things better left unsaid?
I'm sure that you,
Oh wall of stone,
Have seen many wonderful things.
I'm sure that you,
Oh wall of stone,
Have heard many wonderful songs.
Do my eyes deceive,
Or are you in bits,
Crumbling beneath me?
What a shame,
Dear wall,
That thieves only want treasure.
So they broke through,
Took the best of you,
And left you shattered.
I think they were fools,
They hardly stopped,
Maybe they would have seen them.
Your walls are covered,
With the words of the past,
In delicately carved letters.
Your stories,
Were the most precious treasure,
Yet they just walked on past.
Don't worry wall,
I understand,
And I will stay to read your stories.
