A/N: Well, once again long over due. No excuse except shear lazy genes taking over. That, and enjoying my summer. It's almost coming to an end :(

Here's hoping all your summer's have been a blast. For all those that have asked, I kicked ass in my exams. I am very happy with the results, so again thanks to all those supported me with kind words. Hope you all enjoy this chapter.

I didn’t know how long we spent by the stream, just lying there, soaking in the spring sun. It felt like hours, but at the same time, it felt like no time had passed at all. It was the kind of place where time stood still.

This was why when Alec suggested we return back to his house, I was slightly disappointed to leave such a remarkable place behind. I would have to come back here regularly, I thought to myself.

We walked back in relative silence, neither of us feeling the need to interrupt the comfortable silence that surrounded us.

As we walked into the kitchen through the back door, I noticed that Claire was putting a plate full of sandwiches along with two glasses of what looked some sort of fruit juice, onto a tray.

“Oh, you’re back,” Claire said when she noticed our arrival as the backdoor closed behind us. “I’ve made sandwiches so just help yourselves. If you need more, just let me know and I’ll slap a few together for you.” She said indicating a large platter on the side which was practically overflowing with all sorts of sandwiches.

“Thanks Ma,” said Alec as he quickly washed his hands in the sink. As I followed his lead to clean up for lunch, Claire caught my attention by addressing me.

“And Nina dear, do let me know if you need more. You’re looking far too thin and pale.”

I stood there speechless, staring at her gormlessly. To the side of me, I heard Alec try to choke back his laughter.

“Ma, she’s always pale,” he chuckled as his mother hushed him and then walked to the living room, presumably to have lunch with Patrick.

“Your mother really does cook for an army, doesn’t she?” I said as I once again turned my attention to the mountain of sandwiches, which I’m sure Alec would have no trouble concurring.

“Yup,” he said as he started to tackle the obstacle that would be lunch. “It’s in her nature. Besides, if you don’t finish this lot, she’ll more than likely force you take it all back to your place with you.”

“Better make a start then,” I joked nervously as I reached for a sandwich. I was by no means one of those girls who picked at their plates or ordered salad as lunch. Please! I was the daughter of a Marine, you know! Give me a steak any day. Besides, as my dad would often point out, salad was not a meal. But Claire would seriously take cooking for two people to a whole new level. The sandwiches looked – and tasted – amazing. They were filled with all sorts of fillings, from salads, to cheese, to every kind of meat. And as such, I knew that I would only be able to stomach a few at the most. How could Claire even suggest making more!

Unless she really was expecting an army to arrive at her doorstep any second.

After three sandwiches, I couldn’t take anymore, and from the look of content on Alec’s face, neither could he. I took out two bottles of water from the fridge and handed one over to him.
