*Kelso’s POV*

What did I have to loose. No one beyond this tables boarders knew where I lived, I had no connection back to this place. This wouldn’t follow me home, I just had to bend my pride for a few short weeks… still, I wonder if this was how my brother felt when announcing his sexuality before our family. If it is, that amazing Christmas present I’m getting him? It’s going to be me as his own personal slave forever for making it harder on him.

I open my mouth to tell everyone, but my throat tightens, refusing to let the words through. Why was I telling everyone I was with Jamie when they’d all asume I was gay because of it? Because I didn’t want to be like that old boyfriend. I wanted him to know I wasn’t ashamed of him….

I just wasn’t gay.

I can understand why people wouldn’t believe me when I say I wasn’t gay, but I really truly wasn’t. Jessie and my sister guy watched. I didn’t find guys attractive. Okay-I found Jamie attractive… but. That was different… alright fine. Ultimate proof I was hetero? A girls chest is more important then her face.

But for Jamie, I’d let everyone think I was gay. It’d suck-they teased me enough when they didn’t know me and Jamie actually had a thing. I can’t imagine how brutal they’ll be when I comfirm that this whole time, there has been something there.

Jamie shifts in his chair, and suddenly our outter thighs are pressed together.I concentrate on that, rather then the anger, insecurity, and fear. The flow of words becomes possible again, and bitting onto the side of my cheek I open my mouth to do something I’ll probably regret multiple times.

“Hey Tally?” the pink haired midget looks up. Her and Jamie still havn’t made up, so she looks angry.

“What?” she stabs her waffles with her fork. It’s a bad day to be syrup covered and delicious…

“Umm. You know the thing you saw the other day? I don’t care. Tell everyone…” I see Jamie’s face snap to my direction from the corner of my eyes. But Tally’s reaction is easier for me to watch-her mouth hangs open for a moment, before a smile over takes it.

The whole table is watching us when she explodes “Kelso and Jamie kissed the other day!”

The table breaks into loud chatter. Ink is claiming he knew it the whole time, Tally is recounting the story, Sal is lauging, Mac is hanging on every detail probing for more. Me and Jamie sit there silently, neither of us speaking, or eating. He’s still looking at me, well I look straight ahead, embarrassed.

It’s amazing that I hear him over the noise, but I do. Just a softspoken question. Just a whispered word “Why?”

I couldn’t tell him why. Not here, with everyone around us. “Later” I murmur back.

***************

“What are we doing out here? If we get caught we’ll be in trouble Kelso…” Jamie hissed behind me. He was right-it was at least three hours past ten, which meant three hours that we weren’t allowed to leave our cabin have passed. I pause for a moment, then steer us in a new direction. “Where are we even going?”

“The lake” I reply, quickening my pace, keeping my footfalls silent.

“Why exactly?” he asks, keeping up easily.

“I had a lake like this near the house I grew up in” and we’ve arrived. The water is a calm reflective surface, the stars as bright on it as they are in the sky. I guide us along the bank until I find a clearing that is surrounded by trees. I lay down immidietly, looking up.
