Preston’s p.o.v.

I should have killed that bastard when I had the chance to.

I really should have.

The words kept repeating in my head as I made my way to the school cafeteria to find my brother. We needed talk about some serious pack business and he as my beta when I finally took over from dad needed to get his priorities straight.

And if he would just listen to me once then he would surely grow up but my brother was not the bastard I was thinking about killing. It was Ramon, that idiot. He was preferably causing havoc in the pack by running in open human populated areas and my dad entrusted me to take care of him.

Yet when I had finally captured him the stupid guards I had left him with had been overpowered by him and he had managed to escape.

I started talking to my brother through our mind link. ‘Where the hell were you?’

‘Where do you think I was dude?’

‘Answer the damn question.’ I used my alpha to be tone and though the power was not fully mine it still had just enough to make him do as I say.

‘At school, okay? I couldn’t make it…’ I didn’t hear what else he said as suddenly I felt someone hit me as I was stood on the cafeteria’s doorway looking around. I cursed in my mind and then noticed that she was about to fall and hurriedly and boldly touched her arms to keep her from falling.

I felt like electricity sparks moving alongside my arms from the points I was holding.

What the hell…

What was going on?

And then she turned to face me…

At that moment If I was never sure before now I had full prove right in front of me. There was a difference between lust and love though at the moment I had no idea where I was. Her eyes locked into mine and for a second I thought they were staring straight into my soul…one that I hoped still existed so she could have it forever.

Huh?

What?

So she could have it forever? I sounded like a very bad poet.

Her green eyes reminded me of emeralds and the sheer beauty of them. I was taken in those eyes. I could loose myself forever in them.

As I stared at her I realized that she was beautiful…her black hair that went all the way to her shoulders was a tempting thing to touch and at that time I realized she was human. Confusion run in my eyes before being replaced with something else.

I then smiled and immediately felt her heart speed up.

‘You’re blocking our path.’ she spoke with some accent.

‘What?’ I asked pretending I hadn’t heard what she had said.

She seemed irritated as she retorted. ‘If you need hearing aids just say so. The infirmary is that way.’ And then she turned to pull her friend through the small space left. I couldn’t help but keep staring at her until she disappeared round the corner.

It didn’t matter that I would seem awkward. All that mattered was I had finally found my mate.

And she seemed like a feisty one…one I could try to tame.

I turned around and realized that no one had probably seen what had happened so with a grin I walked towards my brother who looked irritated that I had cut our connection earlier.

‘What has got you grinning like a fool when only minutes ago you sounded like dad in his anger trips?’ Nate asked as I sat down after saying hi to the guys.

I shook my head. ‘We will continue our conversation when we get home.’ I looked around the room only to notice Britney soaking in what looked like juice. ‘What happened to your girlfriend?’ I couldn’t help but smile as the image of my mate appeared in my mind.

Nate shook his head. ‘You don’t want to get involved in that catfight bro. way out of our hands.’

‘As in human versus our dear Britney?’ my curiosity took over.  He nodded and u thought who in her right mind could fight with Britney. Yeah she might not be their best friend but they always stayed clear when she was around. “Who?’

‘A new girl, she started yesterday and got into a major fight wither. Britney doesn’t like her at all.’ He sipped his water. ‘The new chick…Abby’s her name. She’s a feisty one.’ He described that she was beautiful but really feisty and also got detention on her first day. And as he described her features with the guys chipping in I realized they were all describing my girl…my mate.

I cringed and held myself as some of the guys started talking about how much they would like to do her. Nate noticed this and raised a brow. ‘Nothing, Listen I need to go home. Cover for me next periods.’

‘Sure but you owe me one.’

I nodded immediately already walking away. I needed my questions to be answered and who better than my father.

*****

I found my father in the house talking to mom. They were always so in love, always so comfortable with each other even after years of marriage, and that seemed like forever.  I coughed and they laughed as if they knew something I didn’t. ‘I though you were in school son’ my father spoke firmly.

‘Yeah dad I was but something came up and I need to talk to you now.’  I said. He looked over at me with concern. ‘Everything is alright dad.’ I said before he asked. ‘Just some questions I need to ask you.’

We walked outside for a few minutes outside. ‘so what is it you wanted to ask son.’ Sometimes it was impossible to imagine he was alpha also my father and I was next inline.

‘I…I… well I kind of like…found my mate today dad.’

‘That’s great news son. You should bring her over so she can meet your mother.’ He said proudly.

‘Dad, she’s human.’ And those three words made my father stop in his tracks and stare at me.
