~CHAPTER 26 - Time to Say Goodbye~

Roxanne

We wrestled on the ground as I struggled to free myself from her grip. She had me pinned down, with her hand pressed against my face. Blood welled from my neck and it hurt like hell. She had taken a chunk of flesh from my neck, leaving me bleeding as she fought against me.

“Roxanne… Roxanne!” screamed Alexia.

I didn’t spare a glance at Alexia as I knew Nerice would use it towards her advantage. Cries filled the air as I fought against the excruciating pain. Nerice was strong, even stronger than when she attacked me in my mind. Before I knew it, I was flung against a wall, falling to the ground. I knew it wasn’t supposed to hurt that much, and as I looked up, I saw Chipo in front of me with her hands extended in front of her. She was mumbling again, with Mike and Daya following. I looked for Alexia, and saw her crumbling on the ground, smeared with blood. Shocked, I tried getting up, but I couldn’t. Something held me in place.

“We will set you free as soon as you calm down.” said Chipo, staring deep into my eyes.

“What’s going on? Where’s Nerice?” I shouted in desperation.

Everyone stopped in place, as though I had said something unheard of. Mike rushed over to my side, brushing his fingers through my hair. He stared at me blankly, waiting for me to speak. I didn’t though, I was lost in thought. Nerice wasn’t here with us; no she was in my mind, attacking me, hurting my loved ones. I pushed Mike to the side, rushing towards Alexia, who lay on the ground trembling.

“Why did you do that to me?” she cried.

“No, Alexia, no it wasn’t me. Nerice, she was here. She attacked me.” I stumbled over my words, wanting to reassure Alexia.

I wrapped Alexia in my arms, pleading for her forgiveness. I had attacked her, and not Nerice. Nerice was getting stronger and I knew we had to put an end to this. I led Alexia back into the room, out of the sunlight. Mike followed silently, I had almost forgotten about him. He offered Alexia his blood, but she refused. Mike ignored her protest and thrust his wrist into her mouth. She obeyed though I knew she wasn’t happy about it. Soon Alexia’s wounds healed though she was still shaken, sobbing quietly into my chest.

“What happened?” asked Mike.

“I thought Nerice was here, and that she attacked me. It felt so real; I even felt her ripping a chunk out of my neck. I never in a million years would have realized it was all in my mind. Oh Mike, we have to stop her.” I said.

“The others are on their way, their almost here Roxanne. We will go and meet Nerice and we will kill her, I promise. She won’t hurt you or anyone else again.” He said.

We waited the day out; the others were going to be there at nightfall. I had a vision of what would happen, and I knew we were awaiting many. They were all determined to put an end to Nerice. I knew that once she was destroyed, a lot was going to change.

I sat with Alexia all the time, not wanting to leave her side. She was scared silly and I knew this wasn’t her destiny. I would find a way to make her human again, make her forget all that happened. She deserved better than this life, she was too young to handle it. She was going to be human again, and I knew it was possible. I had a vision, weeks back of Alexia being human.

“The sun didn’t hurt us.” Alexia said after hours of silence.

Mike and I both stared at Alexia. I hadn’t thought about that and I looked towards Chipo for an explanation.
