Chapter Thirteen (Julian)

"So, that's everything that Daimonas told me. He wouldn't let me ask anymore because he said we were wasting energy whenever we spoke." I finished, exhausted from answering everyone's questions and finally able to get a word in.

We'd moved our meeting to the dining room to avoid the chaos in the kitchen. We all sat around the huge dining room table. Everyone was silent for a while and while that was what I wanted before, now I was uneasy that no one was talking. I glanced at Adam, who sat beside me, but he seemed calm and relaxed.

I'd never understand how he could be so calm like that. It made me jealous. I hated flipping out like I did before, especially with all those weird powers Daimonas had given me. It'd be easier if I could hold myself in check.

"All right," Alexander said at last, making everyone look at him, "So Daimonas is a solid being now. He's not just a mist in your head. And he said he'll slowly gain powers from you, and until he can teleport out of your head, you're stuck with him. Did he say how long it would take for the power to surface?" I shook my head. Alexander sighed, looking disappointed. Vladimir glanced at him, then turned to look at Adam, who stared right back at him without a lick of fear.

Sometimes I wondered if Adam was suicidal. I mean, I know he could take several guys down all by himself without getting a scratch, but my people were different. We didn't get hurt as easily as humans did, and we were much stronger than humans. We could easily break someone's neck without so much as a flick of our hand.

And what was that look about anyway? It was like Vladimir knew something that I didn't, something that Adam knew too. But asking both of them would be useless because neither of them would tell me and instead respond with something snarky.

"If Daimonas leaves me," I said at last after an awkward silence, "Does that mean all the powers go with him? The visions? The telekinetics?" Newell nodded, pinching the bridge of his nose like he had a headache before he spoke.

"Yes. All the powers go with him when he leaves. So we're pressed for time." He admitted, frowning as he looked down at the table, tapping a fingernail on the surface. My mother looked at him, her expression confused.

"What are you talking about, pressed for time?" She asked sternly. Newell glanced at her, then looked at me.

"Zephyra doesn't know, but they will, and when they find out, they're going to fight even harder to grab a hold of you. We need to act fast if we're going to scrap up at least a little bit more information before Daimonas leaves you, and we need to keep a more careful watch over you. Getting in contact with Ikuto would also be a good idea right about now." He explained, making my mother scowl.

"No more tests! Julian's gone through enough already. I don't want him back in the hospital. Ever, honestly. And Zephyra won't get a hold of him if we're all hovering over him constantly. He's safe for now." She scolded, making Newell roll his eyes. Vladimir chuckled, however, making everyone look at him.

"We've already gotten in contact with Ikuto." He stated. Newell looked at him in disbelief.

"How?" He demanded. A slow smile crept onto Vladimir's face before his blue eyes swept across the table to Adam, who sat there staring at him with a look that made me want to warn Vladimir to start ordering his coffin. At the same time, that alarmed me. Adam knew where Ikuto was? How? Why? Where? When?

"I don't understand." I said first. Everyone looked at Adam, who didn't care for them and seemed to be in a staring contest with Vladimir before he stood up. I stood up next.

"Adam--"

"This is getting really annoying," Adam's voice was hard, and strong enough to have me instantly sitting back down in submission, "I wasn't going to say anything because I was going to go see the guy on my own."
