Chapter 24

Only one night passed when Andre left the country. He was in such a hurry that I didn't catch up with him at his apartment. But because I'm also too busy to take care of my problem right now and looking for for mom. I can no longer focus on my work at the right time. I am trying to call Andre to ask him what is happening in the Philippines, how his mother is, and what happened.

Tinutulungan din ako ni Detective Smith na mahuli ang salarin sa likod ng pagbabanta. At abala ako sa paghahanap ng bakas ng nanay ko. Pumunta ako sa lugar kung saan laging tumatambay si mama, sa opisina niya, sa garden niya, at kahit sa lugar kung saan palagi niyang ginugugol ang mga araw niya kapag weekends, sa dance room n'ya. Tinanong ko ang maraming tao kung nakita nila siya, o kung saan siya huling nakita. Ngunit wala pa ring bakas kung saan siya nagpunta.

"Detective Smith, what's the news? Have you found the place where Baldo is hiding?" I asked desperately. Pagod na pagod na ako, pero gusto kong malaman. Dahil desperada na akong mahanap si mama.

"This person seems to be smart, Ms. Reyes, every time we traced his place, he'll suddenly disappeared." He replied, holding my shoulder with a concerned face. "Looks like you need to rest first—"

"Hindi! Nasa kamay n'ya ang buhay ng nanay ko, Smith! Hindi ako pwedeng tumayo lang dito at magpahinga habang nasa panganib ang nanay ko!" Nakatingin siya sa akin ng naguguluhan. Pero wala akong panahon para isalin ang sinabi ko. "If you can't do the job properly, I'll do it myself." I said firmly and walked away. 

"No, no! Ms. Reyes, I assure you! We will track Baldo down!" The man shouted from behind me.

Kahit gaano ako kapagod, kinaya ko pa rin ang sitwasyon. Ginamit ko ang lahat ng aking kaalaman upang matunton si Baldo sa tulong ng ilan sa mga hacker na kinuha ko. Pero sinigurado ko muna na matunton muna namin si mama. At saka boom. Alam kona kung nasaan siya. Pero ang nakakaloka, napakapamilyar ng lugar na ito. Matatagpuan ito sa K restaurant, kung saan ako dinala ni Andre para kumain.

I talked to Detective Smith about it. And don't go straight ahead because maybe later Baldo will find out that we have traced his location. But while I was preparing for what we were going to do next. I can't help but feel sad. I don't know what happened to Andre. I don't even know why his mother was tortured. But I only have one hunch. It's connected to Baldo. I'm not numb and stupid to think that Andre's mother was just tortured for no reason. Baldo knows that his work will be easier if Andre is not with me. So he separated us. But because Andre's and my mother's lives depend on this, I know I can't bear it if Andre doesn't go to save his mother. 

Isa pa, laging may isyu ang nanay ni Andre kay Baldo. At baka noong paglabas ni Baldo sa kulungan ay nagplano agad s'ya ng paghihiganti sa nanay ni Andre, at para tugisin ulit ako. Parang katangahan na kahit nakalipas na ang pitong taon ay nag-effort siyang sirain muli ang buhay ko. 

There are people who are really stupid who can't forget, and even if they are the ones who hurt people, they still have the courage to fight back.

Pero bakit? 'Yan ang tanong ko, bakit kailangan na lagi akong malagay sa ganitong sitwasyon? Na sa tuwing magkakaroon ako ng pagkakataong maging masaya, nagiging magulo ang lahat? Umaasa pa rin naman ako sa magandang mangyayari. Nagdadasal pa rin ako na sana ay ligtas si mama, na ayos lang si Andre, at maging okay ang mom n'ya.

While I was deep in thought, I heard the horn of a car outside. That's Detective Smith. When I got out, I immediately got on board. We have police, swat, and bomb defusers with us in case there is a bomb placed on mom's body. But during the trip, I couldn't help but think about Andre, instead of mom. I'm worried because I don't have an update on him.

But my mind immediately shifted to mom and became alert when the car slowed down. We stopped in front of K restaurant, and I immediately felt deĵa vù because Andre and I used to eat here. My father and I also met here at an unexpected time.
