*Beep beep beep beep... beep-

Suddenly, the girl jolted awake, smacking the alarm clock and flopping back onto her bed like a pancake.

And so it begins! The moment of truth! Will the dream cutie finally propose to me? Oh, the suspense!

"HEY, SLEEPY HEAD! GET UP ALREADY!" Luna's mom hollered, yanking the blanket away from Luna's grasp.

That noise could wake up a koala from hibernation! But hey, we're talking about Luna here, so of course she'd wake up.

"Momm..." Luna whined. "The cuti-"

"Huh?" Her mom raised an eyebrow, daring her to finish that sentence.

"The cuti-cle! Yeah, I bit it so hard it started bleeding!" Luna blurted out.

"Oh really? Show me then," her mom deadpanned.

Wow, her mom is so caring! But Luna quickly changed the subject, desperately trying to hide her secret. Nice try, Luna, but moms have superpowers when it comes to sniffing out secrets.

"How about that breakfast, huh? I'm a grown-up girl who can take care of herself, after all," Luna rushed, hoping to distract her mom.

But seriously, how can she just spill the beans about her dream crush? Maybe being single for so long has messed with her brain. It's a mystery.

Luna flashed her mom an innocent smile, but it quickly turned into pure terror when she saw her mom's furious eyes. Yikes, it's the look of death!

"Mom! I'm sorry for lying! I promise I won't do it again, I swear!" Luna pleaded, swearing on everything holy.

Her mom stood up and gave her a look that could only be described as... well, indescribable.

Why is her mom staring at her like she just cheated on her with another mom? This is getting intense!

"You have no idea what I've been through to raise you, girl. Do you? Your dad left us, and I've busted my ass to give you a good life," her mom said, plopping down on Luna's bed.
Well, that escalated quickly. Luna better brace herself for some serious mom talk.

Luna cautiously approached her mom and gave her a light pat on the back. "Hey... That was all in the past."

Her mom's lips curled downwards, but Luna wasn't about to let her get away with emotional blackmail.
"Come on, Mom. How many years are you going to use that excuse? Dad's out there doing research, remember? He only left a week ago. Don't tell me you've already forgotten!"Luna rolled her eyes at her mom's straight face.

She was so over the guilt trips. She couldn't believe she spent her entire childhood thinking her dad had abandoned them. But on her fourteenth birthday, he showed up with a gift and everything changed. Looking back, Luna couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous it all was.

-------- [FLASHBACK]

"Oh my goodness, look at you, my little munchkin! I can't believe how big you've gotten! I wish I had come here sooner, but I got lost in a sea of toys and silly adventures!" A stranger with a big grin squeezed me tight as I stood near the table, ready to dive into my birthday cake.

"Um, excuse me, who in the world are you?" It suddenly hit me like a ton of giggles, and I blurted out, "D-Dad?" My face scrunched up like a silly clown in disgust.

"Why are you here? Why now? I've lived the bad part of life without you, so why show up now that I'm having a good time?" I said, trying to sound all grown-up but secretly raising my voice like the little girl that I was.

All the guests and relatives looked around, completely puzzled, as if they were searching for my mom's secret hiding spot.

"Oopsie, my bad, kiddo! I totally forgot to send you super fancy presents when you were a little girl, but guess what? I've got a super-duper limited edition iPhone just for you today!" He beamed with excitement, looking like a goofy clown.

I couldn't help but think, 'I'd love to give his face a punch until he can't smile like that ever again!' But of course, I kept that thought to myself.

"Do you really think I care about your 'fancy schmancy' gifts? All I wanted was to have you by my side this whole time!" I shouted, letting out all the silly rage building up inside me.

"I understand, my little pumpkin. It must have been tough for you, and believe me, it was tough for me too." He said with sad puppy eyes, trying to be all sincere. Yeah, right!

"Tough for you? Oh, please! You were probably off having the time of your life with some lady and a bunch of little rascals by now!" I scowled at him, trying to look all serious.

He stared at me as if I had just announced that I, a little girl, had magically gotten a man pregnant. I had never seen a grown-up so confused in my whole life. It was so funny, I wanted to burst into laughter, but the mix of emotions inside me was just too overwhelming.

"Baby, I think we have some misunderstandings betw-" He tried saying, but I was like, 'Hold up, dude. I ain't in the mood for your bullshits.'

"No way! Mom spilled the tea on everything you did to us. Got her pregnant at nineteen and left when she turned twenty. You never even glanced back at us. Did we become invisible or something? Are we that forgettable?" I grabbed his collar and let loose a saliva shower on his face. Normally, I'd care about my image, but right now, I couldn't give a flying fart.

I looked up at him, feeling betrayed, tears streaming down my face, snot running like a marathon, and I dropped my final bomb before mom came sprinting, "You're dead to me, Dad." I emphasized that 'dad' part.

"Emily? Didn't I propose to you when we were both twenty-two? And then I left for my space research. What's she talking about, babe? You know I love you and our kid to the moon and back. I wouldn't even dream of having another woman in my life, let alone another kid. Why is she saying this, and why is she saying you told her that, sweetie?" His eyes were welling up, and I swear, I wanted to rip them out of their sockets.

He said my mom's name, Emily, with so much love that it could confuse anyone about their relationship, but not me.

"Actually, I did tell her that," my mom confessed, scratching her head guiltily. The poor guy stood there, looking like his world just got hit by a meteor.

Now, I'm starting to suspect some serious shenanigans. This dude looks way too innocent to abandon a pregnant lady. Something fishy is going on here.

"Why? I know you must have a good reason," he asked, grinning like a little toddler.

"Oh, you know, I just wanted my daughter to be a good child and an independent lady. So, I fed her this whole spiel about how I'm busting my butt to give her a good life and that she should never let any man bring her down." She said looking proud, does she think she is wearing a cape and a crown, like the queen of righteousness?

I stared at her, my emotions going on a rollercoaster ride. It took me forever to wrap my head around this crazy mess.

Turns out, my mom spun a wild tale about my poor, innocent dad just to mold me into a good girl.

'Seriously, is this some kind of Bollywood soap opera?'

I've never felt so mortified in my entire fourteen years of existence. It's like I unleashed a flood of emotions and spewed out a bunch of nonsense, especially from my dad's perspective.
I feel like the biggest idiot right now.

------ [END OF FLASHBACK]

She shuddered at the memories of her past.

Thankfully, her mom didn't launch into a lecture about leaving the past behind and all that jazz. Thank goodness for small miracles.

As her long-lost memories resurfaced, she couldn't help but feel a wave of excitement building up. Today was going to be one hell of a hilarious ride, she could just feel it in her bones.
