"He killed his mother himself."

Yue Sihua was asleep in the room when Fu Changyan walked in. The room was a little chilly, and Yue Sihua opened her eyes slowly as she heard the noise at the doorway.

"Changyan?" She called out in a low, hoarse voice, and Fu Changyan replied shiveringly, "Mother, it's me."

"It's late," Yue Sihua murmured as she sat herself up. "Why are you here?"

Fu Changyan said nothing. His body shook slightly as he stood at the doorway. It struck Yue Sihua as a little strange. Concerned that anything had happened to her son, she hastily got up and walked over to Fu Changyan, looking him up and down, and asked, "What's the matter, Changyan? What happened? Tell Mother."

"Mother!" Fu Changyan broke down in tears and fell to his knees, lifting his arms to give Yue Sihua a hug. The instant he raised his hands, a tiny insect suddenly sprang out of his arm and scurried straight into Yue Sihua's body. Yue Sihua cried out in alarm but only managed to let out an "Ah!" before losing her voice.

Feeling a sharp pain in her abdomen, she shoved Fu Changyan away. She stared at her kneeling son in shock as Fu Changyan desperately kowtowed. "I'm sorry... Mother... I have no choice... Only one can live. I have no choice..."

Yue Sihua was unable to speak. She felt the Jindan in her abdomen slowly dissolving, and she collapsed to the floor in such agony that her entire body convulsed gently. In a daze, she saw Fu Changyan stand up, brandishing his cutlass and approaching her.

Yue Sihua's heart felt as if it had been stabbed by a sharp blade, or perhaps it had, and she couldn't tell whether she was alive or dead. Then she watched Fu Changyan hide the cutlass, drag her to the bed, cover her with the quilt, and then pretend to be calm as he walked out. Outside, Shangguan Mingyan's gentle voice asked, "How is Madame Fu?"

"She's asleep," Fu Changyan responded in a low, husky voice. "Don't disturb her. Let her sleep well."

The voice then gradually faded into silence.

In the silence, Yue Sihua noticed a purple-clad woman slowly manifesting herself in the darkness.

She was wearing a mask with the bottom half pushed up to overlap the top half. Yue Sihua was unable to see her face, but at that moment, she knew clearly that it was Yue Sinan.

Yue Sinan sat beside her bed, staring attentively at her while her life was slipping away.

"It's very painful to have your Jindan dissolved," Yue Sinan said calmly, "but, in comparison, being betrayed by a loved one is far more painful, isn't it?"

Yue Sihua was unable to speak, so Yue Sinan turned away and leisurely murmured, "If he doesn't end up killing you, I doubt I will either. After all, you owe me nothing but love and the Jindan, and I've owed you a great deal for years as well."

"I'm just curious if everyone is the same as you. As it turns out," Yue Sinan said calmly, casting a sidelong glance at Yue Sihua, "everyone is indeed that filthy."

With that, she raised her hand and pushed the mask's bottom half down from its top half, completely covering her face.

"Lin Chen Jiějie," she said as she rose to her feet, a hint of remorse in her voice, "is the only pure thing in this world."

Right after she was done talking, Yue Sihua grabbed Yue Sinan's hand with the last of her strength.

Yue Sinan had her back toward her and didn't look back. Raising her hand, Yue Sihua tremblingly scrawled three words on her palm: "I am sorry".
