"It was your father, himself, who killed your mother, and-"

The entire room fell deafeningly silent.

For a moment, Fu Changling felt that even beating him up would be a disgrace to his own moral character.

"Madame, how did you raise your son to be such an idiot and keep it a secret for so long?" he asked, turning to Yue Sihua.

"Changyan," Yue Sihua muttered hoarsely, "this is one of your... cousins from the Fu Clan. You can just call him DàGē."

Upon learning this, Fu Changyan was a bit embarrassed. As he was on his knees, unable to stand or not to stand, Fu Changling glanced at him and admonished him, "Get up. Still on your knees? Do you really want to acknowledge me as Father?"

Fu Changyan flushed as he slowly stood up. Yue Sihua gave him a weary look, then said, "You go out. Don't say anything about this cousin being a Fu clansman. It's confidential. As for that wooden plaque, you go out and tell them I've worked out a deal with the two Xianshis. Both Xianshis possess great magic powers, and the three of us are capable of keeping everyone safe against the enemy, so tell everyone to stay calm."

"Just stay in your respective dwellings," Fu Changling added, "and keep away from the backcourt."

Responding in a hushed tone, Fu Changyan went out. Upon exiting the chamber, he was met with Shangguan Mingyan in the doorway, clad in a tunic, frowning and asking, "Are things done with? I was asleep just now..."

"It's done." With a nod, Fu Changyan murmured wearily, "You go back to sleep. I have to get busy."

Having said that, Fu Changyan left.

The only ones left in the chamber were Yue Sihua, Fu Changling, and Qin Yan. Rarely did Yue Sihua's expression become sober and composed, and in the midst of one death after another, she appeared to be gradually settling down.

Fu Changling tapped his small fan while he and Qin Yan waited rather patiently for Yue Sihua. It took some time before Yue Sihua spoke again. "What exactly do you both want to know?"

"Yue Sinan belonged to the Yue Clan." Fu Changling affirmed, "How did she end up being Madame Yue?"

This question elicited laughter from Yue Sihua. "To answer that question, I'm going to die. Can you guarantee that I'll live?"

"Why do you wish to die?" Fu Changling leaned back in his chair and added with a grin, "Madame, we already know the thing that's going to get you killed."

"Eighteen-oh no," Fu Changling smirked. "It'll be nineteen after the New Year. Nineteen years ago, the Immortal Realm's top echelons agreed to use humans to refine their own spiritual energy core in the Kingdom of Le."

Hearing this, Yue Sihua looked up in shock, stared at Fu Changling, and uttered in a quivering voice, "You know..."

"An eye was required for the Human Alchemy Formation, and Yue Sinan was that eye. Hence, she was sacrificed, right?"

As Yue Sihua listened to this, her expression changed numerous times. After a while, she seemed to be dispirited and slumped against the wall with a stupefied look on her face. "What's the point of asking me if you already know all about it?"

"I want to know more," Fu Changling answered calmly. "I want to know who she was, how she became the formation's eye, how she managed to escape from it, and how she came to be Madame Yue. Just tell me whatever you know."

Yue Sihua stared up at the ceiling without saying anything. Seeing that she hadn't yet come out of her stupor, Fu Changling couldn't help but become a little anxious and got up to speak, but Qin Yan held him down, saying calmly, "Patience."
