I WAS NEVER A FAN OF HOCKEY
but once I found out all of my friends were now playing, I was forced to get into it. Me personally, I've always preferred volleyball. But hockey is great too. I've become quite good at hockey over the past couple of months, mainly practicing with my friends. Who.... Aren't so good. I like to say I have a natural talent of being good at everything, but I'm not.

I'm not good at math, well that's a lie. I'm good at math, but I don't try. I'm a bigger fan of reading, reading is one of my favourite things to do. I've always loved reading, it's been an escape for me. Away from my family, my dad mainly.

My dad used to be the best. But after my mom left, he got fired. And now works at a crappy diner called "Mikey's" but it's not that bad, mainly because Charlie's mom also works there. But he barely goes to work, he barely even try's to pay the bills. Or do anything for that matter.

I know that he loves my mom still, and I know that he still loves me. But I find it hard to love him when he's always drunk and can barely pay the bills.

What I have had to adapt to is the fact that im 11 years old, almost 12. And I have to help my dad pay the bills. I work very part time shifts at Mikey's, but obviously it's a small diner so the full time workers barely get paid anyways. I also help at the library, which I would do for free.

And I sometimes work at a house in Edina, I tutor Adam banks. He's one of our sworn enemies, I don't find him that bad. But he's bad around his friends. Which I can understand, but my friends have never seen the other side of him. The one that I have.

Anyways enough about me and my life,

"Wait, when did you finish that book?" Sidney asked me as we laid on my bed.

"Yeah, it wasn't very good though. I really thought Jackie and Johnny were going to get together." I sighed as I took a sip of water.

"Hey, I heard there's a second book. Called " mysteries." Connie smiled as she wrote in her notebook.

"What? How could I have not known this?!" I rambled to myself as the two girls laughed.

"Cory relax babes, you'll last a day without reading that series." Connie laughed.

I don't know where the nickname "cory" came from. I don't know if it suits the same Cortney. Does it? Well either way, all my friends have called me that since we were kids.

"Yeah yeah." I smiled.

"Hey are you coming to practice tomorrow?" Sidney asked.

"No, sorry I have volleyball practice." I sighed.

"What? Come on Cory!" Sidney yelled annoyed.

"Relax, it's one practice." I laughed.

"Ugh!!!" Sidney shouted.

We then heard a knock at my door,

"The boys are here." Connie slightly smiled.

I then walked to the door, and as I opened it I saw my other best friends. Lester Averman, Charlie Conway, guy Germaine, and Greg Goldberg.

"Come I-" I said but was cut off by all the boys running in my house.

"Okay then." I muttered to myself.

I then went in my room and saw the boys trampling over my bed,

"Hey watch my book!" I yelled as Averman put his knee right over my book.

"Relax Cory!" He laughed as I playfully punched him in the arm.

"Ow." He muttered to himself.

"Ok, girls what movie are we watching today?" Guy asked as he sat next to Connie.

Guy and Connie were soulmates. Neither of them wanted to admit it but we all knew it.

"Hmmm, karate kid?" I asked.

Everyone said "yeah!"

I then pulled out my dvd of the karate kid and put in into the record.

"How many times have we watched this?" Goldberg asked.

"Only like... 1000 times." I smiled causing everyone to laugh.

"Man. I'm hungry." Averman sighed as he put his hand over his stomach.

"Hey Cory, any chance you still have your secret movie snacks under your bed still?" He smirked.

"Yes Averman." I smiled.

I loved days like this, just being able to relax.

But we all know they can't stay like this forever.
