LOCKWOOD
train station

"Wow, there's a lot of green!" George announced, looking out at the mass amount of trees and fields near the train station.

I held back a chuckle at the boy, my eyes flickering over to Leighton, who wore the shortest tightest top you've ever seen. And I couldn't take my fucking eyes off of her.

"Never been outside of London before, George?" I questioned, shaking my head and trying to dismiss the intrusive thoughts.

"I visit my gran in Sidcup." George responds.

"Sidcup is in London." I chuckled.

I faintly heard Leighton's giggle, and I swore my heart skipped a beat. It was perfect. Last night, we spent the whole night talking and kissing until she fell asleep on my chest. And when she did, I just laid awake holding her, my fingers combing through her hair. I was so scared to lose her. I didn't want to take my eyes off her for one second.

"Then you have your answer. Doesn't look like I've missed much." George spoke. Leighton linked her arm with George's, looking up at him with a smile.

"I haven't been outside of London either, Georgie, don't worry." She placed her hand on his bicep and I couldn't help but clench my jaw.

My eyes flickered over to the girl, she had a playful smirk on her face as she looked at me. Her grip on George tightened, making me raise my brows.

"I can't believe we're going to Sir John Fairfax's house." I stated, continuing to walk and ignore Leighton and George.

"You've got a real hard-on for him, haven't you?" Lucy questioned.

Leighton giggled once again, this time pulling away from George standing beside me. I brought my arm up and wrapped it around her shoulders, pulling her into my side. She looked up to me with a smile and it took everything in me not to kiss her.

"He always has." Leighton spoke up, looking towards Lucy. "Honestly, since before I can remember it's always been Sir Fairfax this, Sir Fairfax that, blah, blah, blah."

"Well, if you wanna put it like that." I said through gritted teeth. "He's succeeded in everything he's tried. Publishing, show business. He didn't even start smelting until he was in his thirties. Now look at him. And he came from nothing too."

"Nah, he's old money. And you have a massive house in central London." George was quick to respond.

Leighton grabbed my blazer from my hand, pulling herself out of my grip to place it on. I smiled as the blazer practically drowned her.

"Well, mortgaged to the hilt, George. I'm practically a serf." I responded as Leighton wrapped her small hand around my bicep.

I liked the fact that she wanted to be close to me, that it wasn't just a random kiss that we were both going to ignore. This was real.

"Welcome, I'm Ellie, Mr Fairfax's assistant. This way please." Ellie lead us to a red car.

I watched as Leighton furrowed her brows at the girl, I lightly nudged her, making her look up at me. Leighton just shook her head and smiled, ignoring the previous feelings that she had.

"Is Sir John-"

"He's waiting at the hall." Ellie cut me off, opening the boot of the car. She took George's bag first, hissing in pain as she threw it in.

"You okay?" I asked, removing my rapier from its holder.

Leighton stepped away from me slightly, lowering her head as she did so. She didn't pack anything, not even her rapier, which I thought was ridiculous but she told me I had to trust her, and I did.

"Old war wound." Ellie responded.

"You were an agent?" Lucy questioned softly.

"Lots of Mr Fairfax's employees we're. He's a good man to know when your talents fade. Wouldn't say he's kind, but he understands when people need a second chance. And he pays well." Ellie paused, looking at the car and then back to the four of us. "Now, he didn't tell me there was four of you. Hope one of you doesn't mind sitting on a knee. Hop in."

We all turn to look at one another. I didn't want to speak up to soon by saying I'd let Leighton sit on my lap until we got there, but apparently she had other plans.

"Lockwood, if you don't mind?" Her voice was quiet, almost as if she was nervous to ask.

I let out a small chuckle, nodding as I opened the car door to climb in. She slowly sat on my lap, my hands resting on the exposed skin of her waist.

She shifted slightly, causing me to hum. My grip on her tightened. She couldn't keep moving how she was. If she did, it would be a bit awkward when we stood up.

Leighton turned and faced me, our noses brushing, causing my breath to hitch. She had a knowing smirk on her face, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

"You're trouble." I whispered.

"Yes I am." She whispered back, resting her head on my shoulder for the reminder of the ride.

I couldn't help but think about what would've happened if we were alone. God, the girl drove me insane. And I fucking loved it.
