"Breathing in the air and breathing out my fear, I feel like I'll be doomed tonight." ~ Sleepy Hollow [Su Lee]

"Jungkook."

"Uh huh?"

"You're staring."

"I know."

Maisie rolls her eyes and slaps his arm. Jungkook merely grins and pulls her in closer to his side.

"Kiss me," he mumbles, pouting pathetically.

Maisie grins, cupping the side of his face and kissing him sweetly. It was such a weird feeling to be able to kiss and hold another man, but she couldn't help but sink further into the lust that clouded her mind.

It didn't take long before Jungkook flipped them around, her legs spread and their kisses more feverish. His lips slide down to her throat and Maisie moans, her eyes fluttering shut as his fingers creep up the bottom of her shirt.

The ringing of Jungkook's phone startled both of them, and Jungkook groaned in frustration against her lips.

Maisie's cheeks burn as he reaches over to the coffee table to grab his phone.

"What?" he snaps.

"Hello, Jungkook," a voice says. The voice is unrecognizable, as it's gone through a voice changer to make it deeper.

"Who is this?" Jungkook asks, standing and balancing the phon between his shoulder and ear as he adjusts his pants.

Maisie watches with curious eyes.

"Don't worry about that," the voice says. "What you should worry about is you. Do you really think your uncle is the only one who wanted your father's position?"

Jungkook freezes.

"We'll talk again soon, Jungkook," the voice says. "Until then, don't cause too much trouble."

The call ends and Jungkook tosses the phone onto the table before he runs his hands through his hair.

"What's wrong?" Maisie asks, standing.

"Nothing," Jungkook says, more harsher than he intended.

"Well it's clearly something," Maisie snaps back. "What did they want?"

"Maisie, it's not a big deal, alright?" Jungkook says angrily. "I'll handle it."

"Jungkook, I can help!"

"I don't want you to!" Jungkook snaps. "I don't need you in any more danger."

"You can't make decisions for me!" Maisie argues back. "You can't expect me to just sit here and do nothing. I care about you, Jungkook. Let me help."

Jungkook stares at her, his eyes softening.

Then he groans, tugging at his hair and pacing before turning towards her. "Alright, fine. Someone called with a threat."

Maisie's heart sinks but she presses her lips into a firm line to conceal her emotions. "What did they say?"

Jungkook sinks down onto the couch. "They used a voice changer so I couldn't identify their voice. They said my uncle wasn't the only one who wanted my father's position."

"What do you mean?" Maisie asks as she sits beside him.

"Maisie, I run one of the most powerful assassination groups here," Jungkook says with a small, amused smile. "That comes with money and power. Of course someone would want that."

"And your uncle... he wanted that too?" Maisie asks carefully.

Jungkook's eyes harden, and he looks away with a clenched jaw. "Yeah, he did."

The pieces start to put themselves together in Maisie's mind, but she wants to hear Jungkook say it. She wants him to have a chance to reveal the truth.

"What happened to your uncle, Jungkook?" she asks softly.

Jungkook seems to be in a trance, staring off into nothingness for a few seconds.

"It was a long time ago," he says, his voice quiet. "I was 18 at the time. My father and I were super close, y'know? He put me through difficult training but he tried to be the best father he could be."

Jungkook licks his lips and holds his hands tightly together. "My uncle was always jealous of my father. And one night... he killed my father right in front of me."

Maisie's heart breaks as she watches Jungkook's eyes swarm with tears.

"So I shot him in the head," Jungkook says angrily, trying to keep his tears at bay. "I didn't even think twice. As soon as I saw my father laying in his own blood, I-I—"

"Jungkook," Maisie says softly, placing her hand on his. "I'm sorry."

A tear slides down his cheek and she gently wipes it away. One gentle touch from her and he was breaking down into tears.

Jungkook never really had the time to mourn. Hell, it was probably a few days later when people started turning to him and questioning him on what to do next.

But this? Being so vulnerable with the girl who touched him so softly?

Jungkook couldn't help but relish in the moment.

"That must've been hard," she says quietly, arms fully wrapped around him. She kisses the top of his head as her hand rubs his back. "But you were so brave, Jungkook. So brave."

For some reason, that made him cry harder.

"I miss my father," Jungkook cries, clutching onto her. "I want my dad back."

He immediately regrets the words. How could he say something like that?

He curses himself for being so vulnerable, for being so weak.

But Maisie lets him be weak. She lets him break down while she hides her face in his shoulder, hiding the tears sliding down her own face.

"He's so proud of you, Jungkook," she whispers, and he whimpers against her chest as another sob rips through his chest. "He's so lucky to have had a son like you."

Jungkook doesn't let go of her, his hold on her tight as if he's afraid she'll leave him too.

And he prays she never does. If she left him, Jungkook wasn't sure he could survive.
