I jolted up as I heard loud screams from upstairs. I quickly regretted waking up because I had a major headache and my mouth felt dry. I looked around confused on why I wasn't in my room and then my eyes fell on Jake who was now awake too wondering what was going on. I threw off the cover and looked at my clothes, then his. The pancake fight last night. It was at the same time we knew who and why they were screaming. We hopped up and ran to our rooms. I put on pajamas and threw my dirty clothes in the hamper. I threw on some quick sneakers and headed upstairs with Jake behind me. I was afraid to confront Grace on what she might say. I hesitated at first, but then Jake pushed me so I could go to the kitchen.

When we walked in knowing we were in trouble. Aunt Grace was staring at the kitchen in a daze as if it would go back to normal. She turned around to face us with angry eyes. I hope she wouldn't yell, I already had a hangover.

"What is this?" she asked

I couldn't think of any lie so I went with the truth.

"Pancakes." I said

"Clean it up, I don't care how you two do it, or how long it takes. Just do it." She demanded before walking out of the kitchen

"Did we really do all of this last night?" I asked

"Yea, mainly you because you have terrible aim."

"No, I don't. Maybe last night, because someone had me under the influence."

"I didn't put a gun to your head."

"Whatever." I said throwing my hair in a ponytail

After a hour and a half, we were finally finished. I leaned against the counter and slid down to the ground. I was tired and wanted to go back to sleep. Jake was leaning against the counter next to the sink.

"Do you have a gun?" I asked

"Where does that come from?" he asked

"I don't know." I shrugged

"Yea."

"Can I see it?" I asked He hesitated for a while then he moved away from the counter.

I thought he was going to his room to get it. But instead, he pulled a pistol from the back of his pants and my eyes went wide.

"You carry that thing with you ?" I asked

"Yea, how else am I supposed to protect you ?" he shrugged

"I thought you would have kept it in your room or something."

"What if I need it and I don't have enough time to go get it?" he asked

"I don't know, I just wasn't expecting you to pull it out of nowhere." I told him

"Do you want to see it or not?" he asked

"Yea." I nodded

He took off the handle thingy and pulled the top of the gun back where another bullet popped out. He walked over and handed the gun to me. I grabbed it and it was really heavy.

"Why is it so heavy?" I held it with two hands

"Metal." He said repositioning my hands

"What's the part you took off?" I questioned

"The magazine. It holds all the bullets." He answered

I held the gun up to the wall and pretended to shoot it.

"How well can you shoot?"

"Very well." He smiled

"How long have you been working with guns?" I asked

"Long enough."

"How long is 'long enough'?"

"Long enough to know every gun and how to shoot it."

"So what's this one called?"

"Glock 19."

"Can you teach me to shoot?" I asked

"Maybe." He said taking the gun back I took this time to look at him up close.

His bed hair made him look too attractive for words.

"You think she's still mad?" I asked breaking my gaze

"Maybe." He shrugged

"Is that your favorite word?" I asked

"Towards you, yeah." He smiled

I rolled my eyes and left to my room. I got some clothes out to take a shower. I washed my hair as I cleansed my body. I stepped out feeling refreshed especially after brushing my teeth. I put on a purple, blue, and pink printed caraz dress that stopped above my knee. I put on some black tights before adding some golden brown knee boots. I looked at the clock in my room and it was already three o'clock .

"Sloane!" Grace called me

I ran up the stairs and found her in the living room. She was wearing a long cotton knitted sweater with some black jeans and black heels. She didn't look angry, I hope she wasn't.

"Look Aunt Grace, I'm sorry about what happened in the kitchen-"

"Oh, its fine, as long as you two cleaned it up." She smiled

"Oh, so why did you call me?" I asked

"Can you go get the mail, it's down the hill. Just two minutes away." She said

"Yea, sure."

I went downstairs to Rip's room and knocked on the door. He opened it wearing nothing but jeans and no shirt. It took me awhile before I remembered why I came down here.

"Um, Grace wants me to go get the mail. Do I need you ?" I asked

"That's about 5 minutes there and back. Yeah, you need me."

"I'll be waiting in the living room." I rolled my eyes

Less than two minutes later, Jake was ready and we headed to the car. I had to beg him to let me drive when he insisted it would be more 'safer'. We reached the bottom of the hill and Jake reached over and opened the mailbox to get the mail. I made a U-turn and headed back to the house.

He was sorting the mail and gave most of it to Grace.

"Thank you." She said

I was headed back to my room, when Jake handed me an envelope I didn't expect any mail to come in and there was no return address.

When I disappeared to my room, I opened the anonymous letter. There were pictures of me taken at a far distance. The first one was at the mall when I picked up Ashli. Then there was one with Ashli in it. The last one was at the party when Jake was teaching me how to smoke.

'We're watching you'

Was the note attached to it. I felt sick and faint so I sat down on the bed. I began to cry and shake as the tears landed on my legs. Who are these people and what do they want from me?
