Mariana's POV

One drink after another and soon the anxiety of the evening had melted away
Into a feeling of comfort, a blurry warm feeling that didn't make me feel so exposed to everything
It calmed me.

Which was probably a stupid decision.
I didn't need to be drunk.
It never helped me, it only encouraged the black outs and made me sad

And having not had a drink in two years, I wasn't exactly as tolerant as I used to be.
"So how did you say you met Mari here exactly?" John asked.

"We uh-"
"We met in a cafe, she served me, until I took her on, right Lizzie" I said, saving her from her uncomfortable position of not wanting to tell people what she used to do.
"Yeah, right, I remember Freddie from some business deals, but I haven't heard of you before, John was it?" She asked

"Yeah, this is John, my brother, my married brother" Arthur emphasised, grabbing John by the shoulders
As soon as Lizzie strolled in, it seemed John had forgotten his wife and kids at home.

"Yeah, and that's Arthur, my older brother" John said back
"I'm not that old" Arthur chuckled.

I stood up, leaving them at the table to have a smoke outside
I missed cigarettes the most in prison
They were so calming, so relaxing.

And it was only when I got outside I realised I didn't have a match
"Here" Tommy said, coming to my rescue
"Thanks" I said, taking a drag as he shook the flame away, standing beside me against the stone wall.

"Having fun?" He asked
"Tons" I said sarcastically
"I mean, are you coping?" He asked, but he became slightly blurry when he moved in front of me
My eyes couldn't focus on him properly.

"Course I'm coping, I have you here don't I? And you always help me, through thick an thin" I said, smiling up at him
"Are you drunk?" He asked
"Maybe" I sighed, blowing out my smoke
"Then you should be in bed" he said

"That's a bit forward isn't it Thomas?" I asked, amused with the look on his face
"Mar, you need to go home, this... we can't go back to this, you getting drunk and switching, waking up god knows where" he said, putting his cigarette out.

Tommy's POV

She needed rest, she needed to feel safe at the moment to be able to settle back in
She didn't need to wake up with blood on her not knowing where she got it from
It would only set her back.

I grabbed hold of her arm gently, and led her out of the back gate, down the street towards her house
She let herself in, stumbling round with the keys before she finally managed to do it
Then she tumbled up the stairs, badly.
